I'm a person who loves the countryside, the beach and nature in general. It's a great gift from Allah that I deeply cherish. I like to go camping (I used to be a boy scout once) and to do walks in the woods. Another thing is when it comes summertime and feels like going to the beach. In respect to the islamic dress code - we should always dress modestly - what should we wear when we go to bathe in a beach? I reckon that for men, some shorts down to the knees would suffice. What about for women? Clearly no bikinis, but what kind of hijab can it be used in a beach?

I like running as well. It's good to keep me reasonably fit. I usually wear a t-shirt and some normal shorts for that (just a little above the knee) and for playing football as well. It is halal, right?

As for looks, would it be considered haram a man having long hair? I heard that tattoos are haram. I have one in my back from my pre-islamic years that I won't be removing. I was wondering if a tattoo with an islamic motif, like the shahada for example, would be frowned upon by the Shariah.

And piercings? Are they unislamic?

Final doubt; I'd like to know the reason behind muslim men not being allowed to wear silk and gold.

:salam: there are bathing suits for woman that fully cover the awra but honestly they look weird. they would do best to swim in an all women pool or womens section on the beach. same applies to men, they shouldnt be in the presence of (almost) naked women.

your shorts according to most scholars needs to be under the knee. but the malikis say the awra ends just above the knee. but getting some shorts that end under the knee shouldnt be a problem.

men can have lomg hair, but not beneath the shoulders, from what ive learned.

tattoos are not permitted, no matter what it is, even islamic stuff. you dont have to remove yours though i think, its expensive and its a difficult process but dont quote me on that. even if you dont remove it, its best to at least hate that you have gotten a tatoo in the past because its not allowed.

as for the reason not to wear silk and gold, i dunno. perhaps it has to do with it being a luxury, kinda lavish. but i dunno.

anyway if smeon finds fault with what ive said, please correct me.

Assalamu Alaikum,

The link below should clarify one of your questions:

Don't quote me on this...but I think one of the reasons why men should not wear silk or gold is because they should not imitate women....I think thats one reason why....not sure though.
