I have to disagree with the Mars example given.
The retrogade motion is not due to epicycles, rather, it is because of the different speeds of Earth and Mars and the fact that our orbits are not perfectly circular.
Hence the retrogade motion is only relative, i.e. what *appears* to the person on Earth. It is not actually going in the opposite direction.

As for the hadith, Allahu A'lam what it actually means, and it could be very well literal (which I accept it as). However, to use Mars as an example, and to conclude that this is a sign of the Day of Judgement approaching is incorrect.

na'am I have to agree with Tilmeedh, not from a scientific perspective, but an Islamic one. It is not for us as laymen in this deen to explain ahadeeth in any way other than what was mentioned by Allah and his messenger or by the sahaba.

i'm not accusing you of anything , Umm hurairah, just stating, that sometimes we get caught into the excitement of a possible new "breakthrough" and it may turn out to be wrong. Although It would be interesting to look into the scientific possibility of what you mentioned.

All i know is that magnetic North is moving and will soon be over siberia..which means eventually the sun will be rising from what we now call North and then finally it will reach what we call now West. Subhana Allah and Allahu Alim. May Allah protect us.

when you say finally, what do you mean, like next week or , how soon do you suppose North will be over Siberia, and where did it start out? How fast is this progression? Can I find any scientific facts about this?
I'm very skeptical about these things until I do the reasearch.

ok, forgive me for my dumb questions, but, How exactly do they "detect" the Magnetic pole.
I see that the magnetic and geographical poles are presently (according to sceintists) 600 miles away from eachother and that the magnetic pole wanders around, but what exactly makes the magnetic pole the magnetic pole?

Hmm.. I don't think that the magnetic pole will move past siberia.
The magnetic poles 'wobble' around the geographical poles. So, when they move in one direction we mustn't forget that they wobble to the other side too.

@Dawud.. the magnetic pole is detected using a compass. The 'actual' poles are the axes around which the earth rotates.
What makes the magnetic poles wobble? It is because of the motion of the earth's liquid metallic core, which has been acting funny recently.

this is also true. we r in no position to do tafseer of ahadith or Quran.we have not specialised in that feild. the best thing when it comes to understanding the quran and hadith is turning to the ulaama(scholars) as the have/ or r specializing in that feild.
