Sheikh saleems is the link above ( http://www.idauk.org/ ) we dont have to stay there :) boardings only for brothers. i have the advantage that i live round the corner from the darul uloom, maybe it would be easier for you to do it in b'ham if theres any place there, for the reason that you would have to travel everyday. (this shouldnt put you off though sis, mashAllah the darul uloom's top.
Sheikh Saleem's academy are doing a redevelopment project and all the classes wil be held there in the future inshAllah, it will probably take a few years before its done.

Assalamu Alaikum sister,
I would sincerely advise you to consider the studying at the darul uloom. Having been in your situation last year...i was being told that i should give up my Alimah course and go for a islamic studies degree at University.
But believe me sister the alimah course is better for u InshaAllah. Uni involves so much fitna and is not the best place for a woman. Whereas at a madrassa u are in the best of environments, with the best of company (The Knowledgeable).
So if u are in the position to do so....study the alimah course. Also about learning Arabic, most likely u will not study a lot of language but u will probably study grammar which will enable you 2 pick up the arabic language more efficiently and also be able to translate quran and Ahadith.
These are classical, islamic sciences that are unrivalled. Whereas an islamic studies degree is usually taught by a non-muslim orientalist, and you are taught what they want u to be taught.
InshaAllah ask your shaykh also.
I hope i have been of some use. :D

JazakAllah for your advice, i did think that aalimah course is better spiritually, but it was the fact that the islamic studies degree gains u a qualification which can help you in employment (teaching etc) that had me confused but i realise from what u said that the aalimah course is better for you. i did have another question though, inshaAllah im hoping to get married v. soon, is the Aalimah course very difficult, in terms of balancing a married life and children (am hoping to start a family soon aswell). And, im worried about the financial implication that obviously ill leave my full time job to study aalimah course, but thats my weakness i guess, as i know everything comes from Allah SWT and that financial worries should not keep me away from learning deen InshaAllah. Any advise would be most appreciated. JazakAllah

I think that doing an alimah course is a better alternative for a woman than obtaining a degree from a uni. Because a madrasa offers much more than just the studies, if you're boarding then you'll have the priceless oppurtunity to live in an Islamic mahole (environment) for the duration of your studies from which you would benefit greatly both academically and spiritually.
There is a full time Islamic school in Bradford, UK which offers alimah courses and secular education also, such as GCSE's and such. I'm not sure if they have a website though.

Salam,
Would obtaining an islamic education degree be the same as obtaining one from a madressa? Would you have the same authourity to answer questions and stuff, if your teachers are different? In unis, the professors tend to be non-muslims right?

The IDA Alimah class runs only for a couple of hours a day. 5 days a week, times : 8:45-12:45pm. Cost: £500-650 per year. It's a 5 year course (well depending on whether you have prior study of Islam, Arabic, Urdu etc, you may be able to start straight into the 2nd year... )
Where were you planning on taking a degree in Islamic Studies? Which institute?

And also in order to go straight into the second year would i need a certificate to show them that i know my urdu. cos my mom is gonna teach me it i.e. i am not going to go to any classes for urdu but only arabic.

It depends on the madrassah and the individual. You'll probably have to sit an exam or interview first.
With regards to Birmingham Uni, I heard the Islamic Studies degree they offer there is pretty good. I think one of the lecturers there is Maulana Ashraf Makadam... masha-Allah, a brilliant teacher.

Kanz also has a Sunday class too for sisters only. Between 1pm til 4pm. The first hour they teach us tajweed, the second hour is for fiqh (currently we are going through the fiqh of taharah) and the last hour there is a general talk, usually something tazkiyah related (taken from Imam al Ghazali's book 'Ihya ulm ud deen').

3) What other courses do they offer there and how long are they?
4) And are there any courses for brothers as well?
5) When would the new classes start for the alimah course?
