Does anyone know any institutions where one can go and study deen in Birmingham?
I know a few places and I will post them tomorrow (inshallah) for the benefit of others.
Inshallah if anyone knows of any institutions where one can study e.g. an alim/ alimah course, fiqh, aqeedah, Arabic and etc then please do share.
I know a lot people in Birmingham who are interested in studying e.g. aqeedah but they are finding it difficult to find aqeedah classes in Birmingham. Therefore if you know of any institutions then please inshallah do let us know as it will benefit a lot people.

There is another place for sisters only, where they hold alimah classes. I don’t know the address but it’s in Small Heath, Coventry Rd opposite Al-Halal supermarket.
As well as an alimah course, they also hold fiqh classes, tajweed classes and classes for children.
It’s basically a branch of Al-Kawthar academy in Small Heath for sisters. (www.alkawtharacademy.org)
For further details please pm me so I can give you the number of the alimah as I feel it is inappropriate for me to put up a private number.

Faizan-e-Rasool Institute has been running Alim / Alimah courses for nearly three years now. The graduates tend to proceed to takhassus in Syria.
They have three classes for brothers of different levels (after fajr, mornings and 6-9pm evenings weekdays). There is a class for sisters on Sundays between 3-7pm (Tajweed, Arabic, Aqida and Hanafi fiqh). Afterwards, there is an open lesson in Shama'il, tafsir as well as dhikr (7.15-9pm), which most of the sisters stay for.
The sister had asked about aqida specifically. The aqida lessons are clear and well taught - using Shaykh Salih Farfur's introductory book ar-Risalat un-Nafi'a with further explanations from Imam Sawi's commentary on the Jawharat ut-Tahid.
Courses are in English / Urdu taught by Allama Sa'eedi, who has been teaching the sacred sciences for over 20 years in Pakistan, the Middle East and the UK. The sisters class has three teachers. The standard is high, masha-allah.
The address is: 97 Drews Lane, Ward End, Birmingham. 01213268465

Asalaam Alaikum!
MahshaAllah I never knew there were so many institutions in Birmingham!
Jazaakumullahu Khayraan everyone.
I just pray Allah grants us all the tawfeeq to sincerely seek knowledge for His sake, and that He (swt) makes it easy for all of us.
There are Friday dhikr gatherings at Kanz-ul Huda in Sparkhill. The address is: 108 Newton Road,
Sparkhill,
Birmingham.
I don't know much about the details, but I've heard these gatherings are really beneficial. At the momment, they're going through Ihya ulum ud deen by Imam Al Ghazali.
There are several other classes going on at Kanz-ul Huda, taught by Shaykh Saqib, who I believe has also studied in Syria.
Apart from this, there are arabic classes going on at Dar-us Salam on Coventry road, every Saturday between 1.30pm until 3.30pm. They cost £20 per person for 1 month. They're approaching the end of the first book; A gateway to learning arabic (i think thats the title- can't remember). I only joined the class last week, but Alhamdulillah the sister was really encouraging and said that we'd easily catch up.. insha'Allah. Just one peice of advice though, as Shaykh Muhammed Al Shareef said in one of his lectures, it is better to memmorise/familiarise yourself with the Quran first, then learn arabic. This is because what tends to happen is people rush into learning arabic so they can understand the Quran better, but once they've learnt arabic, their zeal to understand the Quran has finished. He gave the analogy, that you're waiting to eat a buffet, but you line up in the queue to get a plate, and once you got your plate, you just go sit down and forget about the food. The food being the treasures of the Quran.
So, inshaAllah the key thing is to keep our aims and goals in mind, which is to get closer to Allah, and to seek His pleasure.

You can also study Arabic in Gamkol Sharif Mosque. However, the classes have started but if u are really interested then contact them to find out when the new classes are gonna begin.
The course is taught by Shaikh Amjad. Its the same shaykh who is going to be teaching the alim and alimah course at Sultan Bahu.
This course is taught in the evenings only (I think).

as salaamu 'alaykum,
Sparkbrook Islamic Centre hold study circles every Friday evenings. There are separate family duroos, for the aunties, for the sisters and for the kids.
Also, I think the Mosque on St. Oswald's road do study circles, though I'm not sure when. If you are who I think you are (its been yonks since I last came here!), then you can ask our mutual friend who lives there about the details (of that study circle).
Does central mosque do anything for the sisters anymore?

For both brothers and sisters who want to learn tajweed/do hifz one-to-one with a teacher, try the Imam at Tennison Road Mosque in Small Heath.
His wife is also a quriaa and teaches sisters.
This used to be the case a couple of years ago anyway.

assalaamu alaikum,
try out the qadari butuchichi zaawiyah place off the coventry road, near the caspian pizza, (its on the opposite side of it) they hold female circles there i think they also hold arabic circles, they are going through kitaab ul 'isasiyyah. I cant remember the actual name of the road.
there are circles held at the small heath school on sundays, which is on muntz street.
there is a circle for the brothers in handsworth and the text which is covered is nur-ul-idah. I can find out more about the actual timings if anyone is interested.
at the central masjid the weekly tafsir's circles held by qari ismaeel are opened to both males and females. females sit upstairs and males downstairs. the english tafsir circle is held after the isha prayer on jummah and the urdu tafsir circle is held after the dhuhr prayer on the sunday.
mawlana zahir tends to hold crash courses primarly based upon the hanafi mukhtasars, but you have to get in touch with the jame masjid in aston (thats how its spelt).
for actual road names, then i will have to refer to the people that live in those areas.

y dont you just take some time out and study at a madrassah? much more beneficial than studying the entire dars i nizami with just one scholar. i know several graduates of darul uloom bury, pakistan and south africa living in my locality will ask around about private teaching if you're really interested but i dont think it's a good idea to do the course part time with just one teacher as it's designed to develop you in more than just pure 'ilm. if you're a student looking for part time classes i would highly recommend joining the as-suffa institute's arabic course. i can get you more details if you want on the institute and other info. whereabouts in birmingham are you looking to study? hope you find what you're looking for. ws

To be honest I'm a little sceptical about online courses, although my doubts may be unfounded! Have you done any of them, are they any good?
Just doesnt have the same appeal as sitting with a teacher in a masjid, although I do appreciate given circumstances it can sometimes be the only option.

Anyone here who would be interested in part-time Alimah and Hifz courses for women, if Darul Uloom B'ham extends its facilities for women?
Darul Uloom are considering starting part-time Alimi courses for women, next academic year if there is a satisfactory demand. There are a number of qualified alimahs (any alimahs interested in becoming a teacher contact the website below) who will be able to teach and the facilities will be very good with enough classrooms at present to hold up to a hundred sisters. The courses will occur on weekday mornings, and possibly during weekends. The syllabus followed will be Dars e Nizami, though the medium will probably be Arabic and Engish.
The fees will be around 10pounds/week. Darul Uloom B'ham, is situated at a very accessible location, in the heart of a large Muslim community (Coventry Rd!), with nearly ten bus routes running past it.
A brief description of Darul Uloom:
The Madrasah is called Darul Uloom Al-Islamiah Al-Arabiah, and was founded in 1985 by Dr. Maulana Abdur Rahim. The Alimi course follows the Dars Al Nizami syllabus. The Madrasah has experienced a revival in recent years with the recruitment of some highly qualified teachers. At present there are around 120 students of knowledge, roughly half are doing the Hifz course while the rest are doing the Alimi course.
There are some really knowledgable scholars teaching there now - roughly 25 Ulama and Huffaz altogether, with at least 3 experienced Muftis. Try to catch Maulana Habibul Gaffar's (one of two Khateebs at present) arabic khutbah on Fridays - it is absolutely amazing.
For ages 11-16 the Alimi course is an 8-9 years course run in the mornings only, with the National Curriculum (GCSEs and A-levels) subjects taught in the afternoon.
For college students (ages 16+) the Alimi course is full-time 9am - 4pm, for six years.
The Hifz course is full-time from 9am - 7pm, with most students now becoming Hafiz within 2-3 years.

Yes, the Madrasah is housed within the Mosque premises, right opposite QAF institute. The present Madrasah will be moved to two adjacent buildings which will leave the current facilities free for an alternate purpose - one of the options we are considering is opening a women's Alimah institute.
The course will be around 6yrs - the length of time will be subject to factors such as the intensity of the course and whether or not the Madrasah will be open during weekends. If you and others could register your interest by contacting the website www.darululoom.org.uk, then we can begin gauging how much demand there really is.

Salaam,
I'm interested. I'm studying Quranic Arabic at QAF house on Coventry Rd, so this would be ideal as it would provide reinforcement and help me strengthen my Arabic. Infact, I know about two sisters who also might be interested.
Brother, it is against SF rules to provide and exchange email addresses in the general forums. Therefore could you please provide us with some details such as the day (s) she is willing to teach? Time? Location? Cost? Also has she taught before or is this her first time.
Once you have provided me with this information and if I feel I can attend these classes (i.e. it doesn’t clash with anything else) I can then provide you a number by which the sister can contact us sisters who are interested (not my number though).

Assalamu alaikum sister
Thank you for your reply
I double checked and have been told thet the sister has taught sisters at beginners level in the past.
Due to her English she prefers having one patient sister at this stage preferably a beginner (this would suit her English abilities more)
Once her English improves she can take more students.
Time is not a problem for now and she is not asking for money either because its going to be language exchanging sessions.
The sister has learnt Quran at the mosques back in her arab country and is capable of teaching it.

Salaam,
JazakAllah for your reply. I don't think I'm a beginner in arabic or my friends who are interested.
If she wants to learn English, she can go and learn it in Muath Centre, which is on Stratford Road, near the camp hill round about. A lot of Arabs and pakistani's go there to study and learn English. I think they would teach it for free, although I really can't remember.
Tell the sister to contact the Eduaction Team at the Muath centre to get further infomation.

Salaam,
Brother, you could try and ask at the darulsalaam bookshop on Coventry rd. I knew the sister who use to work there and she told me that they occasionally have classes on the 1st floor of the shop. Just speak to the brother who works at the shop and take it from there inshallah.
Also, you could ask at the Muath centre on Statford Rd. Ask if you can speak to a brother called Hamid Lea (a revert brother) and if you can’t get through to him, speak to someone called Debbie Simpson (a revert sister). Inshallah they can possibly provide some assistance.
But the best place, (where I think they are looking for teachers) is the mosque on Coventry Rd, the Darul Uloom Al-Islamiah Al-Arabia. Speak to a brother called Mujahid. Here is there telephone number: (0121) 772 6408.
Hope this helps inshallah.

Also, I'm not sure, but I think As-Suffa institute might do some. You can contact them to find out for sure.

Accelerated courses are not as good.
It takes your whole lifetime to become a learned Alim..You cnat just walk out in 3 years and say you know everything.
You cant go to Shaam and study for 3 months and call yourself a shaami.
Bro its a lifeling learning curve.
Stick to the Muslim Shariah council of britain.
I know there is a Shariah council in Bham, and its very good and it is clear of any wrongdoings...shall we say.

The tajweed classes by Imam Bukhari are for sisters too. Some were a little apprehensive at the start (reading from a male Qari) but almost all of them appear to be very happy with the lessons and the progress they are making.

Sis Umm Sabr, what did you get? overall percentage? and which section was your strength?
:ws:
I prefer not to give out the percentage unless others will share theirs! Although overall it was much better than what I expected, especially as little to zero revision was done. Other sisters that attended had a similar problem i.e little time to go over the notes before the exam. My strengths were aqeedah and fiqh (in that order I think). I missed out a few questions on the sect's section.

:mash: you both did really well.
To be honest i was aiming higher for my overall marks, but it was due to the lack of homework i put in, very little amount of time.
But Alhamdulillah, I calculated my exams on Aqeedah is over 90% and my Fiqh is over 90% too...though i couldn't get my overall grading, on this occasion il have to settle for 2nd best.
Masha-Allah sister you got good marks! since it was higher than you were expecting.
May Allah give us the Tawfiq to act upon what we have learnt.

I had some different answers than what was expected, for both aqeedah and fiqh questions, due to my own understandings and "aqeedah" on them from past studies elsewhere. I think that led to a loss of a few marks here and there. Hence the importance to stick to the syllabus that is taught and revise it before exam.
May Allah give us the Tawfiq to act upon what we have learnt. ameen.

salams all
my post was actually copied and pasted from the original one on deenport, which i thought would be beneficial for you guys. The course in Birmingham is taught by Moulana Sjaad Hussain and Dr Asim Yusuf, who describe themselves only as 'students of knowledge.' I know that both have studied under Allama Rasool Baksh Sa'idi, as well as some of the ulama of Syria. However, though they often quote and reference their teachers, they don't make a point of mentioning their ijazat and that sort of stuff.
If you would like to know more, they are both very open to questions, so just come along for the induction and ask!
peace all!

Assalamoalikum,
i just wanted to say that i have been looking for an alimahs course for a very long time. In the place Faizan e rasool institute do they do alimah course for sisters? And do they have any website?
salams all
Faizan-e-Rasool Institute has been running Alim / Alimah courses for nearly three years now.

Assalaamu alaikum sister,
Is there any chance these Alimah classes still take place today? Please get back to me. Jazakallah khairun.

1. Understanding Quran & Tafsir
This course will introduce the academic methods of understanding the meanings of the Noble Qur’an through the classical commentaries of the scholars of tafsir. Selections from the writings of Imam al-Qurtubi, Imam al-Ghazali, and Imam Ibn Taymiyyah will highlight the role of tafsir and illustrate that neither knowledge of Arabic alone nor mere translation are sufficient to understand the meanings of the Qur’an. Then, as a selection, the tafsir or Surah Hujuraat will be taught relying on the authoritative classical commentaries of the Islamic Scholarly Tradition.
2. Understanding Hadith
This course will provide a brief overview of the critical issues pertaining to Hadith studies and Hadith criticism. Selections from the academic writings of the early scholars of hadith will shed light on their understanding of Hadith and Sunnah and dispel many of the misconceptions and misrepresentations that are increasingly becoming vogue in the polemics of contemporary ideologies. Issues that will be covered include the authenticity of hadith, history of hadith compilation, and the role of weak (dhaeef) ahadith. The works of the great early scholars of hadith will illustrate that neither knowledge of Arabic alone nor mere translation are sufficient to understand the meanings of the ahadith. Then, selections from the Arba’een of Imam al-Nawawi and the Shamaail of Imam al-Tirmidhiwill be taught relying on the authoritative classical commentaries of the Islamic Scholarly Tradition.
3. Contemporary & Lifestyle Issues
This course will address some of the critical concepts and issues facing the contemporary Muslim living in a secular world. Topics will include Ethics, Gender, Interpersonal Relations, and Time Management.
