Asalamu 'alaykum,

Is it permissible to 1) make du'a and 2) give charity on behalf of a muslim who committed suicide?

Salamu 'Alaykum

In the Hanafi school the one who commits suicide is a sinful believer. Thus, he weill be prayed over, washed, and buried with the Muslims as the major works make clear, such as Fatawa Hindiyya and Ibn 'Abidin's Hashiya.

In light of this it would seem that making du'a and giving charity on his behalf would also be permitted.

Forgive me, but the reply seems to imply that there might be cases where it isn't possible to make du'a & give charity for believers once they die - are there any cases of this?

Salamu 'Alaykum

If there are I am unaware of any such cases.

My answer was just to imply that it is permitted since some hadith may indicate otherwise.
