The Poor Man Said ...
It was a usual meeting. The Prophet (p.b.u.h.) was in his place and his companions gathered around him to hear the words of wisdom and guidance. Suddenly a poor man in rags appeared, saluted the assembly:
"Salamun Alaikum" and finding a vacant place, comfortably sat down. The Prophet (p.b.u.h.) had taught them that all Muslims were brothers and in an assembly one should sit wherever one finds a place, regardless of any status. Now, it so happened that this poor man sat next to a very rich man. The rich man felt disturbed and tried to collect the edges of his dress around himself, so that the poor man did not touch them. The Prophet (p.b.u.h.) observed this and addressing the rich man he said:
"Perhaps you were afraid that his poverty would affect you?"
"No, O Messenger of Allah," he said
"Then perhaps you were apprehensive about some of your wealth flying away to him?"
"No, O Messenger of Allah."
"Or you feared that your clothes would become dirty if he touched them?"
"No, O Messenger of Allah."
"Then why did you draw yourself and your clothes away from him?"
The rich man said: "I admit that was the most undesirable thing to do. It was an error and I confess. Now to make amends for it, I will give away half of my wealth to this Muslim brother so that I may be forgiven. "
Just as he said this, the poor man rose and said: "O Prophet of Allah, I do not accept his offer."
People present were all taken by surprise. They thought the poor man was a fool. But he explained:
"O Prophet of Allah, I refuse to accept his offer because I fear that I might then become arrogant and ill treat my Muslim brothers the way he did to me."

Its easy to forget that Allah is watching us and even easier to become mean to someone even though we know its wrong.
Read the story again :) Look at what the rich man did. He knew he was wrong and firstly he admitted his mistake,
then he tried to make ammends.
if you've something wrong then dont run or hide away.
Admit where you've gone wrong and then try and make ammends :)

Assalamu alaikum wr wb
JazakuAllahkhairun for sharing that with us, Raeesa. I truly missed seeing these kinds of articles on here that would uplift my eman and help me to remember Allah, seeing articles such as this is a great way for us to learn about deen together and share our knowledge with each other in hopes of helping one another get to remember Allah as well as getting and striving to get to Jannah insha'Allah.
May Allah reward you for your effort and time to take it to post articles such as these, play and learn is an excellent islamic learning resource site. There are a few more that I found online that are wonderful. It's these kinds of sites that help our kids grow in their love for islam, their deen, and for who they are and not really what they are...but also for them to realize yes im muslim and yes i love learing about these things as they are fun as well as beneficial.
May Allah help us and continue to guide us and protect us.

I agree, the kid was very cute :mash:, but just to say currently the rules say we're not allowed to post pictures of faces etc. in the main mixed forums! Sorry! :)
With regards to pondering over the Quran. I think this would be excellent :mash: as long as we do so under the guidance of the scholars here. Because if we try to interpret ayaahs ourselves, then we can make mistakes which would cause big problems! Like we go to doctors to help us when we're ill, we go to dentists when we've eaten too many sweets, etc. we can go to scholars of Islam when we're trying to ponder over the meaning of the Quran :insh: and have questions about Islam :)

Agreed. Perhaps the 'ulamaa can look up the tafseer of certain aayaat from different imaams of tafseer. Imaam al-Aaloosee has a tafseer, Rooh ul-Ma'aanee, which has some ajeeb ajeeb points in it which are quite interesting to read.

1. The end of the world and beginning of the life to come, is in the tomb.
2. Evil company degenerates the seeker.
3. Accumulation of wealth is worse than drinking wine, which is prohibited in scriptures.
4. Be not close to a king, however patronizing he may be. His behavior towards you can change at any time.
5. Do not sit alone with a woman (Na-Mahram), however pious she may be like Hazrat Rabia Basri and you may be giving lessons to her.
6. Do not dislike worldly things and consider them lowly and useless.
7. Keep your ego under control.
8. Be cautious of the intruments of music (music itself) because man cannot keep his heart under control on hearing music and he falters.
9. The real patience and piety are those which are for the sole approval of God-the-Great. As such there is no aspect of profit or loss for self.
10. A dog has ten superb qualities (which can be compared with the good qualities of pious men):

iv. He has no personal property - like pious people.
v. He is always faithful to his master, like faithful persons.
vi. He sits on lowly places without hesitation, like humble persons.
vii. He goes to another place when his sleeping place has been usurped. It is like contented people.
viii. He comes forward wagging his tail, if a piece of bread is thrown before him, not-withstanding he might have been scolded earlier. It is the quality of good natured people.
ix. He sits aloof from the master (unless spoiled) when the latter is taking his meals. It is the quality of holy and contented persons.
x. When he leaves his residence once for the good, he does not return to it, like strong minded persons.

INTRODUCTION TO SURA-1 (AlFatiha)
First comes that beautiful sura. The Opening Chapter of Seven Verses, rightly called the Essence of the Book. It teaches us the perfect Prayer. For if we can say pray aright, it means that we have some knowledge of Allah and His attributes, of His relations and His creation, which includes ourselves; that we glimpse the source from which we come, and that final goal which is our spiritual destiny under Allah's True Judgment: then we offer ourselves to Allah and seek His light.
Prayer is the heart of Religion and Faith: but how shall we pray? What words shall convey the meanings of our miserable, ignorant hearts to the Knower of all? Is it worth of Him or of our spiritual nature to ask for for vanities, or even for such physical needs as our daily bread? The inspired One taught us a Prayer that sums up our faith, our faith, our hope, and our aspiration in thigs that matter. We think in devotion of Allah's name and His Nature; we praise Him for His creation and His cherishing care; we call to mind the Realities, seen and unseen; we offer Him worship and ask for His guidance; and we knoew the straight from the crooked path by the light of His grace that illumines the righteous.
Al-Fatiha (the Opening Chapter)
Revealed at Makkah, 7 verses.
1. In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
2. Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the Worlds:
3. Most Gracious, Most Merciful;
4. Master of the Day of Judgment.
5. You do we worship, and your aid we seek.
6. Show us the straight way.
7. The way of those on whom you has bestowed your Grace, those whose (portion) is not wrath. And who go not astray.

Introduction to Suurah-2 (Al-Baqarah)
As the Opening Suurah sums up in seven beautiful verses the essence of the Qur'an, so this Suurah sums up in 286 verses the whole teaching of the Qur'an. It is a closely reasoned argument.
Al-Baqarah, the Heifer (The Cow)
Revealed at Madinah, 286 verses
1. Alif Laaam Meeem
2. This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah;
3. Who believe in the Unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what we have provided for them

character or akhlaaaq as applied to men has no doubt many definitions. it means the distinctive qualities by which one person is known from another. it may mean weakness or energy. it exhibits itself in goodness or in badness. it may also mean the adventitious qualities impressed by nature or habit on a person. he stands apart by himself, and becomes known as 'a regular character.'

sheikh muhammad zakariyya (rahmatullahi 'alaih) was a prolific writer who produced a number of outstanding works especially in the field of hadith. His commentaries on Sahih Bukhari and Muwatta IMam Malik are well known. This was written by him in 1936 A..H (1975). It has been rendered into English for the benefit of the English-reading public.
In the introduction to this booklet, the learned author enumerates all the favours bestowed upon him by the learned scholars of his time. He goes to great lengths in mentioning their favours and expresses his heart-felt gratitude for the bounties of Allah. This discussion and other facts not directly related to the title of the booklet have been omitted for the sake of brevity.
Arabic is a universal language. It is the medium of conversing for over a hundred million people throughout the world. During the Middle Ages it was the language of learning, culture, religion and progressive thought throughout the civilised world.
"Between the ninth and twelth centuries more works, philosophical, medical, historical, religious, astronomical and geographical were produced through the medium of Arabic than through any other tongue. The languages of western europe still bear the impress of its influence in the form of numerous loan-words. Its alphabet, next to the Latin, is the most widely used system in the world. It is the one employed by Persian, Afghan, Urdu, and a number of Turkish, Berber and Malayan languages."

I know its a few pages down from the initial post, but I just wanted to say that I found this story that Raeesa put up quite intriguing.
I'm sure I've heard it before, but reading something again always has a different take than the first time.
Um, yeah, i shared this story with my neighbour infact, it sort of slotted nicely into the convo, and he cared to share a couple of stories with me too. lol. I wasn't sure if that was his aversion to my story, or his contribution to the conversation, but it was a good sort moment of sharing each others beliefs. The both of us agreed on what it is each other had said.
Its useful, very useful sometimes knowing these types of stories/kids stories, that has a moral and can be roughly paraphrased without the meaning being lost from it.
