Salam one and all,

Why do we move around for sunnah salat once fardh salaat has been carried out?

Does this have anything to do with the hadith as to the baraqah delivered by praying in as many places on the earth as possible as this will then testify in your favour? (a reference to this would be nice too)

Jazakhs,

Mossy

yes... you get reward from the different parts of the ground where you pray and on the Day these parts of ground will say 'so and so prayed here,' etc.
thats why most of everyone will pray their fard in one place then for all their sunnahs, and nafls they'll move around to their sides or up ahead or back one etc.

That is a benefit of moving and a wisdom (Hikmah) not the reasn (Illah). The reason is that we are ordered to differentiate between our Fard actions and our sunnah ones, thus after the fard, one canot stand up and start his sunnah straight away, as it is together witht he fard. Either wait a few seconds or change your position.
A hadeeth in Abu Dawud mentions that when a person stood up straight away to start his sunnah, Umar (Radhiallahu anhu) caught him and said: Banu israil were destroyed because of this. (Joining Fard with nafl/sunnah). Nabi (Sallalahu alaihi wasallam) said: Allah has made you do the correct action, o Umar.
And Allah ta'ala knows best

Salamu Alaikum

There are 2 basic reasons behind this.

Firstly, As sis Umm IbrahimIsa and you had stated regarding the testification of the areas we prayed in.

Secondly, because it shows a latecomer that the Fardh Salah is over by breaking the row. I guess this was similar to the point alluded by Soofi Saheb.

Just for the record, I think we should also make it clear that it's not fardh, wajib, nor sunnah, and one doesn't hafta go anywhere far either. I usually move just an inch or so, but even that is not a requirement. Moving about after fardh is simply preferable.

Allah knows best.
