the Qur'an says Christians say the trinity is the Father, the Son and Virgin Mary. While infact it is the 'holy' spirit n not Mary. Why is that?
Also why does it talk about Mary as the sister of Moses and Aaron?

Thank you

Salaam-o- Alaikum

Jibril came to Mary, but the Qu'ran states "We[God] blew a little bit of Our[Gods] spirit in her".
I dont have a Qur'an with me right now so i can't show you where it states that Mary is a part of the Trinity, but it's stated.
I know some people in Greece replaced the Spirit with Mary in the trinity because their former religion had Father, Mother, and Son. So it was easier to get them to convert to Christianity. So it might be the case, even though Mary was not a part of the major trinity belief.

Thank you for your answer, and my Allah guide us both on the right path.

Question

It is mentioned in your Qur’an that Mary was the sister of Aaron (pbuh). Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) who wrote the Qur’an did not know the difference between Miriam the sister of Aaron (pbuh) and Mary the Mother of Jesus (pbuh), the time span between both of them was about a thousand years.

Answer

1. IN THE SEMITIC LANGUAGES SISTER ALSO MEANS DESCENDANT

The Qur’an mentions in Surah Maryam, Chapter 19 verses 27-28

"At length she brought the (babe) to her people, carrying him (in her arms). They said: ‘O Mary! Truly an amazing thing hast thou brought!

O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a man of evil, nor thy mother a woman unchaste!’"
[Al-Qur’an 19:27-28]

Christian missionaries say that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) did not know the difference between Mary the mother of Jesus (pbuh) and Miriam the sister of Aaron (pbuh). The time span between both was more than a thousand years.

In the Arabic construction of the sentence, sister is also considered as a descendant. Thus, when the people said to Mary, Ukhta Haroon i.e. ‘sister of Aaron’ it actually means descendant of Aaron (pbuh).

2. SON ALSO MEANS DESCENDANT

It is mentioned in the Gospel of Mathew, Chapter 1 verse 1

"Jesus Christ, the son of David,....".
[Mathew 1:1]

Gospel of Luke Chapter 3, verse 23

"And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, ....."
[Luke 3:23]

DID JESUS (PBUH) HAVE TWO FATHERS?

What do you call a person who has two fathers? The explanation of the phrase that Jesus (pbuh) was the son of David (pbuh), is that Jesus (pbuh) was a descendant of David (pbuh). ‘Son’, here means a descendant.

theres no where its stated brother..Allah does condemns people who make their desires their 'gods'..so he also condemns people who worship Mary by calling her as 'mother of God' in a way they put her higher than God himself subhanallah since according to christians she gave birth to their God..and if we observe Catholic and Orthodox Christian worship..they basically associate partners with Allah.

this article pretty much says the same thing in a better way.

ISLAM AND THE MATTER OF THE TRINITY
While Christianity may have a problem defining the essence of God, such
is not the case in Islam.

«"They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity, for there is no god except One God."» (Qur'an 5:73) It is worth noting that the Arabic language Bible uses the name "Allah" as the name of God.

Suzanne Haneef, in her book WHAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ISLAM AND MUSLIMS (Library of Islam, 1985), puts the matter quite succinctly when she says, "But God is not like a pie or an apple which can be divided into three thirds which form one whole; if God is three persons or possesses three parts, He is assuredly not the Single, Unique, Indivisible Being which God is and which Christianity professes to believe in." (pp. 183-184)

Looking at it from another angle, the Trinity designates God as being
three separate entities - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. If God is
the Father and also the Son, He would then be the Father of Himself because He is His own Son. This is not exactly logical.

Christianity claims to be a monotheistic religion. Monotheism, however,
has as its fundamental belief that God is One; the Christian doctrine of
the Trinity - God being Three-in-One - is seen by Islam as a form of
polytheism. Christians don't revere just One God, they revere three.

This is a charge not taken lightly by Christians, however. They, in
turn, accuse the Muslims of not even knowing what the Trinity is, pointing out that the Qur'an sets it up as Allah the Father, Jesus the Son, and Mary
his mother. While veneration of Mary has been a figment of the Catholic
Church since 431 when she was given the title "Mother of God" by the Council of Ephesus, a closer examination of the verse in the Qur'an most often cited by Christians in support of their accusation, shows that the designationof Mary by the Qur'an as a "member" of the Trinity, is simply not true.

While the Qur'an does condemn both trinitarianism (the Qur'an 4:17) and
the worship of Jesus and his mother Mary (the Qur'an 5:116), nowhere does it identify the actual three components of the Christian Trinity. The
position of the Qur'an is that WHO or WHAT comprises this doctrine is not
important; what is important is that the very notion of a Trinity is an
affront against the concept of One God.

In conclusion, we see that the doctrine of the Trinity is a concept
conceived entirely by man; there is no sanction whatsoever from God to be
found regarding the matter simply because the whole idea of a Trinity of
divine beings has no place in monotheism. In the Qur'an, God's Final
Revelations to mankind, we find His stand quite clearly stated in a
number of eloquent passages:

«"...your God is One God: whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and, in the worship of his Lord, admit no one as partner."» (Qur'an 18:110)

«"...take not, with God, another object of worship, lest you should be thrown into Hell, blameworthy and rejected."» (Qur'an 17:39)

...Because, as God tells us over and over again in a Message that is
echoed throughout All His Revealed Scriptures:

«"...I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore, serve Me (and no other)..."» (Qur'an 21:92)

The Qur’an mentions in several places that Allah breathed into the human beings "His Spirit" in Surah Al-Hijr, chapter 15 verse 29 in Surah Sajdah, chapter 32 verse 9

Surah Al Hijr Chapter 15 verse 29

"When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."
[Al-Qur’an 15:29]

Surah Sajdah Chapter 32 verse 9

"But He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him something of His spirit. And He gave you (the faculties of) hearing and sight and feeling (and understanding): little thanks do ye give!"
[Al-Qur’an 32:9]

thats different from Ruh Al Quddus which translates into 'Holy Spirit' ie..Angel Gabriel peace be upon him..that is also mentioned in the bible

Title
Virgin Mary and Christian Trinity

Date

Question

As-salamu `alaykum.

I was once confronted with a question that kept me wondering. I hope that you can help me with it. The Qur'an told us about the holy trinity that the Christians worship. It says that they are: Jesus, Mary and Father God. The Qur'anic verse says what means:

*{O Jesus, the son of Mary, didst thou say unto men, 'Worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of God,?' He will say: 'Glory to Thee! Never could I say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, Thou wouldst indeed have known it. Thou knowest what is in my heart, though I know not what is in Thine. For Thou knowest in full all that is hidden.'}* (Al-Ma'idah 5:116)

However, the Christians' holy trinity is: Jesus, Father and the Holy Spirit. It doesn't include Mary.

The question actually came up in a debate I was having about proving that the Qur'an is the words of God. The guy I was debating with came up with this point and I left it unanswered as I couldn't find the defense.

Please provide me with the clarification so that I can get back to him. Thanks a lot for your time and jazakum Allah khayran. Topic

Salam, Omnia.

Thank you for your question.

Starting with the verses in question, its English translation gives the meaning of:

*{O Jesus son of Mary did you say to mankind, "Take me and my mother to your selves as two gods, apart from Allah?" He said, "All Extolment be to You! In no way is it for me to say what I have no right to. In case I ever said it. then You already know it. You know whatever is within my self, and I do not know what is within Your Self; surely You, Ever You, are The Superb Knower of the Things Unseen. In no way did I say to them (anything) except whatever You commanded me (saying), “Worship Allah, my Lord, and your Lord.” And I was a witness over them, as long as I was among them; then as soon as You took me up, You, Ever You, have been The Watcher over them, and You are Ever-Witnessing over everything. In case You torment them, then surely they are Your bondmen; and in case You forgive them, then surely You, Ever You, are The Ever-Mighty, The Ever-Wise.}* (Al-Ma'idah 5:116-118)

The text above, to start with, says nothing regarding the Christian trinity. It simply says that Christians, after Christ, have falsely deified both Jesus and his mother; and that Jesus will be witness over them before Allah in the hereafter. The wording of the verses cannot be twisted any further to serve the purpose of an imaginary conflict with historical facts; a technique often practiced by some Christian missionaries and Orientalists.

Truth is always simple, crystal clear and straightforward; while fallacies are always complicated, mysterious and tortuous. Few words can describe a fact, but you have to go to lengths to postulate a false statement. The straightforward fact of the One Omnipotent God is simple, clear and acceptable to any sound mind, whether a layman or a scientist. Taste the strength and clarity of how God is defined in the shortest surah (chapter) of the Qur'an, that says what means:

*{Say, "He is Allah, The Only One, Allah, The Everlasting Sovereign. He has not begotten and has not been begotten, And to Him none could be co-equal."}* (Al-Ikhlas 112:1-4)

Compare this to the concepts of dual or triune gods, that have their origins in ancient Egyptian, Greek and other old world pagan beliefs; and then crept in and was coined with Christianity more than three centuries after Christ. For Christians, including their clergy, it is simply a mystery they have to dogmatically accept. Quoting a few Christian authorities (M. A. C. Cave, "Is the Trinity Doctrine Divinely Inspired"):

- "God is one, and God is three. Since there is nothing like this in creation, we cannot understand it, but only accept it." (Monsignor Eugene Clark)

- "We know that it is a very profound mystery, which we don't begin to understand." (Cardinal John O'Connor)

- "The inscrutable mystery of God the Trinity." (Pope John Paul II)

Still, nowhere in the Gospels, could we find the word or concept of trinity mentioned; nor been referred to the sayings of Jesus (peace be upon him). It was the Nicaea Council in 325 CE that invented this concept based on the words of John, not Jesus, in his vision:

"For there are three that bear record in Heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth: the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one." (I John 5: 7-8).

However, the phrase, "the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one," has been expunged in "The Revised Standard Version" (RSV) of 1952 and 1971 and in many other Bibles.

The New American Standard Bible reads as follows: "And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood, and the three are in agreement."

Also, in The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, used by the Jehovah's Witnesses, it reads:

"For there are three witness bearers: the spirit and the water and the blood, and the three are in agreement."

The deifying of Jesus and his mother has similarly crept into Christianity, gradually after their departure. First, the status of Jesus was changed from: a human prophet, one of a long string of prophets, to be the "son of God" then to "God incarnate".

Jesus himself has never claimed to be divine or semi-divine. To the contrary, he repeatedly affirmed his human nature and role; and warned those who might unduly ascribe such false attributes to himself:

- "As it is, you are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God." (John 8:40)

- "'What things?' he asked. 'About Jesus of Nazareth,' they replied. 'He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people.'" (Luke 24:19)

- "By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear." (John 5:30)

- "I do nothing of myself." (John 8:28)

"But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." (Matthew 15:9)

This conforms with the Qur'anic description, when it says what means:

*{Surely the likeness of Jesus in the providence of Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He (Allah) created him of dust, thereafter He said to him, “Be!” so he is (i.e., he was)}* (Aal`Imran 3:59)

*{In no way is the Messiah son of Mary (anything) except a Messenger. The Messengers before him already passed away, and his mother was constantly sincere; they both used to eat food. Look how evident We make the signs to them; (then) thereafter look (again) however they are diverged (into falsehood)}* (Al-Ma'idah 5:75)

Later, the status of Virgin Mary has similarly been unduly elevated, to different extents by different Christian denominations. Some regard her to be the 'Mother of God', the 'Spouse of the Holy Spirit', 'Mary as Coredemptrix' (i.e. that Mary participated in some way in Christ's redemption of mankind), or 'Mary as Mediatrix of All Graces' (i.e. that all graces Christ obtains for humanity are dispensed by and through Mary. Others claim that: "God has committed to Mary the treasury of all good things, in order that everyone may know that through her are obtained every hope, every grace, and all salvation." (Catholic.org)

Other groups have more explicitly taken her as a full deity, addressing her as:

"Woman! Thou art God. She is Love! She Provides! Pray to Her! She is Powerful! She Comforts!;"

And, call on their followers:

"How to worship Mary? Pray with Her and to Her!" (WomanThouArtGod.com)

On the other hand, the Qur'an, being the eternal book of monotheism, refutes and shuns away all sorts of polytheism, whether in earlier pagan beliefs or in the successor concepts of Christian trinity, e.g. as in the verses, which say what means:

*{O people of the Book, do not go beyond the bounds in your religion and do not say concerning Allah (anything) except the truth. Surely the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary was only the Messenger of Allah, and His Word that He cast forth to Maryam, and a Spirit from Him. So, believe in Allah and His Messengers, and do not say, "Three." Refrain; most charitable is it for you; surely Allah is only One God. All Extolment be to Him-that He should have a child. To Him (belongs) whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth; and Allah suffices for an Ever-Trusted Trustee. The Messiah will never disdain to be a bondman of Allah, neither the Angels who are near-stationed (to Him). And whoever disdains to do Him worship (Literally: worshiping Him) and waxes proud, then He will soon muster them altogether to Him.}* (An-Nisaa' 4:171-172)

*{Indeed they have already disbelieved, the ones who have said, "Surely Allah, He is the Messiah (Jesus) son of Maryam." And the Messiah (Jesus) said, "O Children of Israel (Jacob) worship Allah, my Lord, and your Lord; surely whoever associates with Allah (anything), Allah has already prohibited him (entrance to) the Garden, and his abode will be the Fire; and in no way will the unjust have any vindicators." Indeed they have already disbelieved, the ones who have said, "Surely Allah is the third of three." And in no way is there any god except One God. And if they desist not from what they say, a painful torment shall befall those among them who disbelieve.}* (Al-An`am 5:72-73)

It is also worth mentioning that the Qur'an holds Mary in high esteem, as in the following verses (English meaning):

*{And Allah has struck a similitude for the ones who have believed: the wife of Pharaoh as she said, "Lord! Build for me a house in your Providence in the Garden, and safely deliver me from Pharaoh and his deed(s), and safely deliver me from the unjust people!" And Maryam (Mary) daughter of `Imran, who kept safe her private parts, (i.e., safeguarded) so We breathed in it of Our Spirit, and she sincerely (believed) in the Words of her Lord, and His Books; and she was one of the devout.}* (At-Tahrim 66:11-12)
