Need a quick response, from a 'scholary' book/reference or a simple answer from someone (salman?).

Someone asked this;

"Can fast be kept if you dont pray Taraweeh at all?"

I have been looking for a answer on our 'traditional and authentic' websites, couldnt find a 'specific' answer.

please reply as soon as possible. The brother who asked, said ASAP.

Thankyou.

:salam:

I assume your friend is baligh? Therefore fasting is fard (obligatory) upon him, taraweeh is sunnah mu’akkida alal kifaya (an emphasised sunnah, the full reward of which can only be gained in congregation). Both should be performed, but if he does not peform taraweeh, this cannot be an excuse to also not fast.

Therefore the issue is not "can he fast" but rather that he must fast.

I'm sure the Ulema can provide a better answer :insh:.

Wallahu Alam.

Well if some one misses all their namazes and whatever but still fast their fast does be counted.
