1. why is it a concern?

2. if there are particular things that annoy you about certain shaykhs of tasawwuf, then avoid them.

3. there are plenty of shaykhs of tasawwuf out there that have a LOT of good to say.

e.g. Shaykh Nuh, Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmad, Shaykh Yusuf Motala, Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi

I think really these are peripheral issues.

Sufism is ilm al ihsaan- the science of purifying the heart.
If you want to learn about it try imam ghazzali's books and other texts on the subjects.
As for some of these strange things you have posted- i have never come across them myself.
Some sufis have accumulated wisdom over the centuries of experience in curing hearts and these may be from those things..Allahu A3lam
It is certainly NOT the essence of tasawwuf , which is being in the company of a shaykh
who will help you follow the way to Allah(swt)....and such a spiritual path is unfortunately not found on the internet- so this forum is very limited in that regard i'm afraid....

I heard two people that I love dearly state something similar. One was a Shadhili and one a Chisti. And they both seemed to suggest that it was according to the kashf of its people.

The Shadhili brother mentioned that it is stated in the tafsir of Ibn Kathir (I think-from one of the acceptable, though never evidentary necessarily Isra'iliyyat) that Sayyidina Sulayman's losing his empire coincided with Shaytan stealing his ring, and he did not get his kingdom back until his ring was returned. He also said that he knew someone who was given a ring by his shaykh, and he immediately had the tawfiq to recite a great number of awrad. And when he lost his ring, half his awrad went with it and he still has not got them back yet.

And the Chisti brother stated that the shuyukh in Pakistan said what you mentioned, but both good and bad, and that each person has a ring that is suited to them.

Its about baraka . . .

There's one thing that directly contradicts a rigorously authentic hadith, and many other things that fall under the category of 'bizarre'.

So this is the correct place to open nuiance issues in aqeedah and fiqh but tasawwuf as according to the turuq is unquestionable???

with respect to aqida and fiqh, there are brothers (and no doubt sisters) who have studied both topics to a substantial level to engage in deep discussions. since those topics affect everyone, it is at times quite useful. since these questions are not, i suggested that this may not be the right place.


I smell some sort of covering up here. Alhamdulillah I have already within 1 day received some responses that are helpful, and if noone knows then the thread will obviously die out.

I heard a story about a sufi from a famous deobandi madressa in lahore.
He had a dream that the Prophet(saw) gave him a ring.
then when he woke up in the morning this ring was under his pillow.
he still has it to this day

i believe it is sufi sarwar from jamia ashrafia in lahore

A ring is sunnah of nabi sala Allah alayhi wa salaam. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim encourages his murids to wear a ring. He also tells them which stone is suitable for themselves. Could be Firoza..Aqiq..Jade..etc. Mosy Syed mashaikh you will see wear the rings such as the Habaib of Yemen.. Mawlana SHaykh Nazim's deputies..Shaykh Ninowy.. etc. There is a few narrations about the ring. One being from Sayidatina Fatima az Zahra radi Allah Anhaand also from Hazrat Ali radi Allah Anhu. There is also narrations that many sahaba and tabieen encouraged to wear a ring engraved with something on the stone or the ring. If you wanna wear a ring .. wear it.. if you don't simply leave it out. No big deal.
