Whats waajib for the one praying individually? Does he have to hear himself reciting or is moving his lips sufficient?

Salam,

he has to hear himself reciting. there is a weaker position within the hanafi madhab which says that the movement of the tongue and lips is sufficient - this can be applied to past prayers, but not future ones. In the shafi madhab, the recitation must also be audible to the person's ears.

Salam,

Mufti AbdurRahman ibn Yusuf Mangera was asked what would be the case of the one who is praying on the highway, and he replied that in such and similar, you follow the other ruling which is that you dont have to hear yourself.

(That is from the questions and answers from one of the online lectures at zamzamacademy).

I'm not sure if this is right but i think i have read somewhere that women should not be audible when they are praying according to the hanafi madhab, can anyone elaborate on this? Jazakallah khair.

Walaikum asalaam sister,

It is tue that according to the hanafi madhab women shouldn't be audible when they are praying.

It is stated in I'la-us-Sunan:

"It is not permissible for a woman to raise her voice in salah."

(pg 41 The Salah of Women Compiled by: Madrasah Arabia Islamia of South Africa)
