Is watching football permitted?...their awrah remains exposed during the match(knees). Also, is the navel part of the awrah or does it start from below that?

Yeah so need to cover from and including belly button to the knees for men. I think. Unless someone can clarify that.

when you say football do you mean soccer? or football football?

overall i think that they should be covered properly on what they're allowed to be covered and what's not, then be careful when watching it as sometimes it can lead to fitnah and also waste of time... though if you're able to keep in your prayers and all and still watch this then do so with precaution that these ppl dont uncover more than usual.

p.s. i dont watch sports period, not my thing... though im not going to say its haram or halal, because the ethiopians dancing and the Prophet SAW allowing Ayesha (RA) to view it, not forbidding it, comes to mind. If you wish to view it it's up to you...if not..again up to you.

In our istilah and even in dars our teachers use the word 'satr' which does mean awrah.
