:salam:
I would like to know how the revert sisters and brothers here came into Islam.
my sisters secondary school teacher embraced Islam after visiting the masjid on jumm'ah prayers..im sure he did research it before that tho..sadly tho i heard his marriage broke down shortly afterwards because of his reversion.
Also i would like to know if you do any da'wah in your local area?

Shaykh Hamza Yusuf said that hadeeth is misinterpreted
he said everyones born in the state of fitrah...i think i read that in the book Purification of the Hearth a translation of Imam al Mawluds Matharat al Quluub

Assalam-o-Alaikum,
Well sister, i know that theres a difference of opinion amongst the Ulema.
I can't remember who(either Ash'aris or Maturidis) believe that everyone is born Muslim.
But my view is that they are born Muslim.

isn't this just semantics. as i understand it, the hadith states that every person is born on fitrah (not born muslim), and one's fitrah leads one to tawhid or an innate belief that there is some external force out there controlling everything, and it is one's parents lead one down an alternate path. what islam does is just guides you back to that state of fitrah.

:salam:
it was my fitrah that led me searching for the truth. i partially found it in the gospels, but something wasn't right. my brother, already having embraced islam, introduced me to islam (which i was pretty apprehensive about). i read, and i read and i read (mostly adhmed deedat books)... and :alhamd: i was guided. it just all made sense.

Haha... as a former Christian I've had my share of Ahmad Deedat as well. I found his "Combat Kit" very useful, and my Bible is well tabbed and well marked up because of it (some extra notes in there on account of Dr. Ehrman as well).
I also used to be a secular humanist too, so in that area, I've had my share of Shaykh Hamza and the such.
And as a former pirate I found a lot of inspiration in... oh wait... :cheesygri
To answer the original question, simply put I was brought in originally though the whole scientific miracles in Qur'an route which started with my reading "Miracles of the Qur'an" by Dr. Gary Miller. It acted as the hook and line which caught my interest and got me to start studying Islam.
Through my study I saw that everything in Islam made sense to me (the sinker), it was all very cohesive and consistent.
I converted the same way everyone else did. You know, the ritual hazing and all that.
Wait... you all did have the hazing right? Right?? :cheesygri
Arrr!

Oh yes, might I add, as a secular humanist, I even ventured to create my own religion (DIY!) However, I soon ran out of glue, my X-acto knife went dull, and I just found other things to do. I still have my note on it somewhere (I wrote them during English I.V. A.P.), I think I called it "The Religion of Life." It really was a religion for secular humanists, since it didn't have any god or object of worship ("but if you must worship something", I said, "worship the sun" since that is where we derive our life from (makes sense to a secularist)).
:alhamd: for reasons I still don't understand, God guided me to Islam. Perhaps He saw my pitiful attempt at making my own religion and figured He'd save me the trouble. Looking at the depth of Islam, I'm certainly glad I was saved all that work. I had like... two pages, handwritten. Close to what we have on Islam, but not quite there.

Alhumdulillah, this should definitely be in the Inspiring section otherwise it will just get lost. Sister Scents of Paradise, I don't think Brother rza (why don't you peeps have normal usernames. :cheesygri ) meant it in a bad way, I think he was thinking that because it was a really beneficial thread it would be great in that section. But, I know what you are thinking, if it goes to the Inspiring section - no one will post, which is true. :cheesygri .

also did any of the reverts face problems?? its really sad that many 'masjids' in the UK are quite exclusivist and donot welcome new muslims as we are commanded to.
there was this english guy my friend told me about ..he went to a masjid and as he was praying he heard some people snicker in the background..some guys were laughing at him because he made some mistake in his prayer..and he left off very angry and sad.

I came to Islam in 2002. When I started college I took a few history and religion classes and that started the ball rolling. Luckily I had the inter-net to feed my curiosity.
I said my Shahadah a year later and married about 3 years later.
Its not a glamorous story; but its mine. ;)

Errr... good question, Sis.
There is nothing wrong with posting links but if the mods feel the site contains questionable content it will be removed.
I suppose you could post the websites and we could all see how good the response time is of the mods :cheesygri .
But, at the same time this may reflect badly on you in the future.
Interesting scenario
Insh'allah, Allah will provide us with a solution. :)

As salaamu alaikum,
I became a Muslim at 18...
I wasn't allowed to interact with my family friends for years, but now they know I'm Muslim and though most people never treated me badly, some people don't understand and I think dialogue with them is important
I was doing some da'wah work, mainly in trying to improve the image of Islam and to try to break the misconceptions I myself had on it (ie. extremism, women's rights, etc.), and I still am trying to contribute positively if Allah wills.

Alhamdulillah, the brothers video and story was very good and inspirational (may Allah keep you steadfast brother), but i can see why he has removed it....we should be careful about wordings we use so as not to cause offence or lead people to misinterpret.
Sister, please don't take this personally as I am not questioning your sincerity rather the wording and use of smilie in the previous post...

I think you may have misunderstood why I did that... (internet is so prone to that and I always say that)
I did that to protect my heart
When someone says masha Allah, I know what they mean and I don't take it wrong, and when I say astagferallah, its in case my nafs thinks its praise (not to the person)... because I know how- I wish I could fully realize how- low I really am. Thats why I said its only for the intention that if it could help someone but I hesitated.
Like I said, if anyone wanted to see it for a good purpose to help someone and more who are way better than me, they can just find them on the websites above.
Anyways, to move to something else,
I always find your reasons for converting... interestingly enough... develop and change as your journey brings you new insights into why you converted... funny eh?

oh ok brother no worries then :)
btw i just want to say you're the third person who converted from hinduism ive heard of.
----
When i was in school there were two Indian girls from my class who were very anti hinduism, anti idolworship..one of them called Apsara would be disgusted by the mere mention of pork even, and her family never ate it...she also said her mother greatly admired Islam..ubhanallah if i was older maybe i could have told them more about Islam..but we were only 13-14 at the time...May Allah guide her and her family ameen
I also knew this english-jamaican girl....she was the friend of my classmate and id only known her for a few days ..then came the tragic news..that she died..a violent death.
What happened is she started getting some problems..my friend said maybe it was jinn..her voice would become really deep like that of a man's and she would start acting weird and start screaming at her mother and sister..her mother got so terrified she put her in a mental institution..it is there she died violently when another patient suffering from szchiophrenia gave her blows to her head with some object.
Now we dont know what was exactly wrong with her but it is possible that this didnt have anything to with beings from other dimensions like jinn..her mother did blame her friend and she also said all this happened because of her daughter converting to Islam etc...
i remember watching tv once and this Islamic Scholar discussing mental disorders..he basically said there have been cases where people who started talking in strange voices ..acting strangely etc were diagnosed as suffering from purely mental disorders, so he said its wrong to assume all such problems are jinn related.i think that makes sense even considering the fact that her white father did have mental disease.
it was really tragic and very shocking. She had great hopes for the future she wanted to get married she even chose Islamic names for future kids. Also since her mother was hostile to her friends i think she went ahead to give her a christian funeral.
May Allah have mercy on her soul and grant her the highest stations in Jannah and give her the family she never could have on earth.
Ameen

Also i would like to know if you do any da'wah in your local area?
The Holy Prophet s.a.w have been reported to have said, "Deliver from me even one ayah (sentence)."
The Holy Prophet s.a.w have also been reported to have said that who amongst you see a mungkar (misdeed), he/she should change it (to good deeds) with his/her hand (authority/power), if he/she is unable to, then through his/her word (writing/teaching) and if he/she is still unable to change it, then by his/her heart (hating the mungkar), and that is the weakest position of faith.
Make da'wah, first to yourself, your family, your neighbors, your friends..try your best... :cheesygri
