Assalamulaikum

Alhumdulillah, we are now into single figure weeks :) !

I had thought that I would just post an article each week but the mass of information on SunniForum Ramadhan (http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15442)
meant this would be silly and pointless.

I was now thinking that each day I will edit the post below so I add 2 names of Allah until we reach 99 names because:

Belief in the existence of God (a higher being) was prevalent in the understanding and ideology of mankind from man's inception with Adam (A.S.). Despite the many times that certain customs and rituals were introduced that changed the way man thought and led man away form monotheism, it has been the practice of the almighty to lead people back to the monotheistic path by means of Messengers, miracles and signs for understading.

Amongst the signs of understanding that Allah has allowed man to ponder over and think about; is the way in wich He manages His entire system. The way Allah allows different things to happen and the way He manages all the different aspects of sustaining His creation.

The different qualities of God was collectively fully understood by each of the Prophets and those close to them, but was lost to the nations in general. This led to major problems in so far as beliefs were concerned.

According to Islamic teachings full details of all qualities of Allah are explained and are available for all to understand.

One while pondering over His attributes and thus what results from them must not ponder in the being of Allah as He will never be fully understood by us. And incorrect understanding, which will be inevitable, can result in loss of faith and mis-guidance. This does not mean that we should study them and their effects to appreciate all the favours Allah has bestowed upon us, and to understand how His system works.

From the various qualities of Allah many have been specifically used in the Qur'an. The rest are from authentic Ahadith. The benefits of learning them and understading them is also mentioned in Ahadith;

"Allah as ninety-nine names, one hundred less one. Whosoever memorizes them shall enter paradise."

If you want to post anything in relation to the names (ayats/stories from the Quran) that would definitely make it really interesting.

WHEN BISMILLAH WAS REVEALED ...
Sayyidina Jaabir (RA) is reported to have said that when Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem revealed, the clouds gave way by moving to the East, the winds ceased blowing, the oceans became calm, the creatures prepared themselves to listen, the shaytaan got pelted with fire from the heavens and Allah Ta'ala, swearing an oath by His honour, declared: Anyone who says this name of mine (ie. Bismillaahir rahmaanir raheem) upon anything, I will surely impart barakah in that thing, (Durre Manthoor and Ibne Katheer)
Allahu Akbar!

Learning the 99 Names seems more difficult than I first imagined as even in translations the same word is defined differently. Is this because the English language is so poor?

Assalamulaikum

I bought a small book over the weekend with all the 99 Names of Allah. And, I have kinda been reading ahead :$

The Names themselves are so deep in meaning that I have learnt it is not a case of learning any type of list, you really have to reflect on each name.

Insha'allah, I am hoping to learn one name after every Salah. The book is mini so fits right into any pocket. I will not be updating the verses as I am hoping to learn the names in one go to get an overview and then contemplate on each one as sometimes you learn a definition and in another source, this definition stands for another name!

I'll be updating the names with 5 names a day. We should all be done in 2 weeks. :cheesygri
