Asalam Alaikum

Haram or Halal?

Ive come across muslims that say that going to cinema isnt forbidden and is allowed what do you think?

I personally think its forbidden to go to the cinema and a great sin. I also have many other reasons but Il mention as the discussion moves along.

I firstly laughed it off but seriously ive been asked quote Quran and hadith to prove that cinema is forbidden, can anyone here do that?

It is basically the same as the exposure to television. Firstly, one is going to be in a gathering of non-mahram men and women which is unacceptable according to Islam. One may argue that "I am not socializing with them". There have been accounts of girls/boys and women being physically molested once the lights are turned off. Many are robbed off their belongings too. Then there is the exposure to music and the content of the movie itself as mentioned above. One is now guilty of indulging in Zina of the eyes, ears, heart, hands and legs. All of these organs which will give evidence against one on the day of Qiyamah. These organs were led into a place where Allah Ta'ala's commandments were being disobeyed and which led one away from the remembrance of Allah Ta'ala.

Very good explanation on the link Ive provided below:
find: 'The Evils of Television' and 'Music and Islam' is also related.

As-salaam broither.....
how convenient? Me and my friends were discussing exactly that.......i really wud like the quetes to support this because i dont know them myself.
The way i have come about it is that is that when you are at the cinema you have no control over what you watch (you cant stop/forward etc) and it is most likely that the film will have scenes that are forbidden to watch anyways , never mind in a cinema!

Askimam will likeley prohibit it.Because of at least these factors:

1:Music
2:Images
3:Looking at non-mahrams.

Thanks for that.

I'm actually more interested in a specific case i.e. going to a smaller, 'art-house' kind of cinema to watch a documentary rather than one of those big, popular cinema chains that only screen productions like James Bond (replete with frequent music, unislamic nudity and general lahw).

If a muslim was to watch say for instance a documentary on Palestine that contained little or no music and no real immodesty in terms of focusing on non-hijab-ed people, would that cinema environment be permissible?

Any views from ulama would be much appreciated.
