Here in east london mosque, after taraawih, during witr, in the last ra'kah-they make a really long dua, im not sure what its called but they raise their hands and make dua for muslims in palestine, suffering in chechniya etc-are we allowed to do this?..or should we just keep our hands folded?

We used to do Qunoot in fajr in our Masjid for a long time but we didn't rise our hands like in dua but kept them folded.

Do you mean after ruku when you're standing up with your hands on your side (Qawmah)...is that when they make a long dua?

In Saudi when I was in Makkah and Madinah they did that every Maghrib Salaah, so in the third rakaat Fardh after ruku and qawmah instead of going down into Sajdah they used to stand making a lengthy dua with their hands in front. To the best of my knowledge I think we keep our hands on the side like we do when saying 'rabbana lakal hamd'. (That's if your talking about them making dua in the same position as I'm referring too). Wallahu Alam. But best to ask a scholar, Insha-Allah.

No, i dont think its after ruku..jus after surah ikhlaas or any other they start. Or maybe its after ruku.

Either way bro Salman just told me its not permissible for the ahnaaf to raise their hands. They should keep their hands folded. I have also heard this before.

I think it depends on the position e.g. if the dua is before ruku then you would leave your hands folded...if it's after ruku then you'd leave your hands on the side. That's what I was told. Wallahu Alam.

Yep, that's what Mufti Yusuf Mullan said. Keep hands in the same position (as they're supposed to be) instead of raising them. So if the dua`a is made before ruku`, then keep hands folded. If after ruku`, keep them by your sides.

Allah knows best.
