Assalamu alaikum,
Isnt it obligatory to give Adhan in the ears of the new born?
My aunt who had her first grand child 2 days back, didnt practise it saying that such a thing wasnt quoted in any of the hadeeses and that it is only a bid'ath!!
Please clarify according to the Hana'fi madhab version as my aunt is a strong Hanafi muslim.
Thank you

The Azan (call to prayer) and Shahadah (declaration of faith) are whispered into babys right ear. A piece of a chewed date is fed by a pious Muslim into babys mouth. On the seventh day, the baby is formally named in Arabic and hair shaved off , with an equivalent weight of gold distributed to the poor.
On this day, the Aqiqah sacrifice is also performed. Some hadiths state that two animals (sheep, lamb or goat) should be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl, with the meat eaten at a celebratory feast and distributed to the poor. Some Islamic scholars, however, believe that one sacrifice should be offered for every child, regardless of sex, in keeping with the egalitarian spirit of Islam.
It is narrated that when Hazrat Hussain Radiallah Tala Anhu was born Rasoolullah Peace be upon him said the Adhan in his ear and He put his own blessed Luab (Saliva) in the mouth of Hazrat Hussain Radiallah Tala Anhu and made Dua for him.
