Imam Nawawi's Wird
A wird is a litany (invocations) of duas that have been passed down through the times, starting from our Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him). A simple example of a wird is the tasbheeh (33*Subhanallah, 33*Alhamdulillah... )
There are many variations of litanies. Imam Nawawis wird is very popular.
All the duas are taken from the Quran or from the pure sunna (words, deeds, and actions) of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. Wird is basically dhikru'Llah the spiritual excercise of the heart through the rememberence of Allah.
Wird literally means 'a place of water' as our teachers have explained to us. Hence the aspirant quenches his thirst through watering him/herself through the sustenance of Dhikr.
The greatest Wird of course is our Quran.
There are untold blessings from these litanies.
