As-Salaam,

There have been many people who said that we should have a subforum or something similar for haram foods. I just wanted to collect it together.

As far as I know the following people want the forum:
ammardiwan
Muaz bin jabal (http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=180277&postcount=4)
sunnilink (http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=180280&postcount=5)
UaHuSsain (http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=180633&postcount=23)

If anyone else wants the forum please post. I mean if many people want it then it'll be worth it. The mods won't find it necessary if no one wants one!

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatu

I think it is imperative to have some sort of approved and reliable source of information regarding haraam products-one on suniforum might be extremely successful, especially since so many people use is, actively silently.

May i suggest that it be sub categorised into UK and American products, as previous experience has shown me that 2 products may not necessarily have the exact same ingredients,i.e while one product may be haraam in one place it may not necessarily be so in the other-my personal experience has been so between South Africa and UK.

Br. Ammar,

You will need to garner at least 100 Yes votes for us to give it futher consideration. :) And for every No vote, you have to get an extra 5 Yes votes......

That's an evil ratio...even if 5 people vote "no" they'll win :(

Prawn is considered fish according to the Relied-upon position in the Hanafi school. Consequently, that is what I follow and find to be proper.

I voted yes. At least we can try to stay away from those things that are haram. The first step is awareness.

Somebody asked, why Muslims allow to eat shark, if the shark swallows people?

It would normally be prohibited. However, God gave all of Humanity a 'dispensation' to freely eat all fish and a shark is considered a fish.

Assalamualikum,

I also agree with this.

“O you Messengers! Eat of the good things, and do right...” (Qur'an 23:51). Allah also said: “O you who believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you...” (Qur'an 2:172).

wa'salam

We are not allowed to disclose any details about discussions which take place in the Shura. I didn't say it was rejected, I just said its not happening anytime soon.

Why not? What's the explanation for that?

Well that's a restriction placed on us by our constitution and Ameer sahib. I forgot the exact rationale behind it but rest assured it was based on sound reasoning.
