Yup, Brother Dave has been Muslim for several years now (I'm not sure how many). Several people who I know quite well, including a former roommate and some other close associates, saw him in Medina during Zaytuna's Rihla program in 2005. He wasn't a part of the Rihla program, but he just happened to be over there at the same time. I've heard he's very nice, humble, and down to earth.

I read on the net (I'm not sure where) he's(David) been muslim since 1998.

Chappelle may have converted in '98, but it was in '05 that he became a practicing Muslim. If anyone's seen his shows, they know it tends to be sexual and racist. However, because he began practicing as a Muslim, he walked away from a $50 million contract 2 months after he signed it, mashallah.

Dave was asked why he doesnt make more display of being a Muslim.
His answer was that his religion(Islam) is so beautiful that he doesnt want to respresent the deen because of his own character and behaviour.
