I got an xbox, some games for that and some computer games, I also got a dvd and a music album, is it allowed to sell them? Would the income be haram or halal or would it be better for me to just give them to a kufr or dump them?

This is what Mufti Ebrahim Moosa said regarding games:

As-salaamu Alaykum

Adding to the conditions stipulated in the link given by brother Haroon, Video games are slightly different to board games in the sense that they include music and at times immoral images.

If the lack of such vices are assured either due to the game not having them or due to unyeilding staunchness in not allowing them then it is difficult to give a Haram fatwa on time-wasting alone.

Undoubtedly, it would be inconceivably better to not indulge in them especially if they are useless or promote immorality.

Games like grand theft auto, doom, Unreal tornament etc are extremely detested and border close to Haram as their most lenient ruling, whereas games such as football, racing etc acquire a more lenient ruling of Makrooh (provided no music),
Other games (like in the first answer by Mufti Muhammad Kadwa) which are educational can sometimes help children learn and are thus helpful (sadly these are not really found on the ps2, xbox, cube etc).

It would be better for you not to waste time on them, and if possible sell them to a person upon whom the laws of Islam do not apply, (i.e. non-Muslims). (The money earned if sold to them is not Haram).

Allah knows best.

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful & Compassionate

Assalamu alaikum,

It says in Majallat al-Ahkam al-`Adliyya:

“Item 34: That which is impermissible to take is impermissible to give.”

This would apply to matters such as music CDs, alcohol, and unslaughtered meats, for example, from the ‘bad old days.’

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani.

Can i sell my music CD collection and use the money for charity?

Asalamu alaikum Is it ok for me to sell my music collection and use the money for charity? or is this a bad thing as the buyer of the CD's may be encouraged to listen to music because of me?

One of the missions of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) was to
destroy musical instruments.

It is not permissible for you to sell the CD collection and give charity. It
will, in fact, be an act of charity to destroy the CD collection.

Is it permissible to play video games Eg: sony playstation?

2. No, it is definitely not permissible to play video games in Islam. Many
things that are prohibited in Shari'ah are found in such games, e.g. music,
animate objects, wasting of precious time, negligence towards Ibaadat, etc.
These are just but a few of the wrongs found in this trivial pursuit.
