:salam:
I'm wondering if anyone can give me good tips on how one should study Islam.
What I mean specifically is, in what order one should study what.
I like learning about tazkiyah, but when I told a brother about that he said he personally would rather first study something else, like lectures on sahabas ra, and so on.
That got me thinking. What is the correct order that one should study Islam? I feel that perhaps if I jump into studying tazkiyah without studying other things first, I may not be able to learn tazkiyah itself properly!! Tazkiyah is very important subhan'Allah, but I wonder if i should study other disciplines within Islam so that I can then properly appreciate and understand tazkiyah?
Can anyone help me?
For example, I read Qur'an and read hadith from time to time. I like to read Riyaduh Saliheen, but should I start incorporating other things in studying, too?
How do you guys study? Jazak Allah.
I'd appreciate any help.

After Madressa which i completed in 2002 i was left with a very strong base.
It depends what you mean when you say you 'want to study islam' have you completed all the basics such as
1. Aqeeda/Creed
2. Cleanliness
3. Salaat
4. Zakaat
5. Hajj
6. Akhlaaq
I know these subjects branch out into many intricacies my ? is have you completed the basics in these issues?

Tazkiya is NOT an indepth branch. It is a path and such a path that can be undertaken by anyone. Even a streethawker has the obligation of keeping his heart and Nafs intact. Tazkiya is that tool. It is usually misunderstood to be a knowledge. Where as its a unique gift from Allah that helps you to change your nature in accordance with Shariah.
To be able to follow on Tazkiyatun Nafs, you do not need extensive indepth understanding of fiqh, rather a brief knowledge of what is required from any muslim. Start from Bahishti Zewar or Taleem ul Haq. Both available in english. Read them to understand the rights one has to fullfill. There after practice them to the Tee.
InshAllah if you do that, you have done the difficult part. Now find a suitable Kamil Sheikh and hand yourself (metaphorically) over to him to correct your inner heart diseases. InshAllah Allah will guide you and you will attain Ihsaan. InshAllah
That is Tazkiya that can be done side by side with your islamic education. Actually it SHOULD be done side by side. Ones deen is not completely perfected without Tazkiya. For Ilm, you may enroll in a madrassah and start your education. For Islamic Studies, it is essential you start with its basis, i.e Arabic. and thereafter learn the Usul and Laws. This is made easier in the Madaris. Everything is under one roof for you to take benefit from..

salaam aleikum.
well, i think i've studied most of them, but should look more into some of the ones that tend to b e overlooked. Jazak Allah!
Just Aqeedah for example, is a large subject within itself, isn't it?
About tazkiyah,ok, I get it, insha'Allah I'm just trying to learn as most effective as possible,is all.
I can't enroll in a madrassa, a lot of times I learn better by independent study, but for Islamic knowledge, madrassa is best inshaAllah.

As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,
There is no need to search for many different books on various topics because we have two sources that cover everything that any human needs to know- Al Qur'an Al Karim wa as Sunnah. I simply recommend constantly reading, contemplating, and applying Qur'an and the six books of authentic hadith.
This is the life long journey everybody is on and the purpose of that journey is to please Allahu subhanahu wa ta'ala and purify ourselves because Allahu subhanahu wa ta'ala only accepts purity.
