Quran in English

As Salaam Alaikum,

I was wondering if anybody could suggest any good english translations of Quran. I currently own a Yusuf Ali one but i find the english to be quite old fashioned if you know what i mean. Is there a good modern day english translation of the Quran which also has decent commentary?

I would suggest the following translation by Mufti Taqi Uthmani (excellent English etc, Al-Hamdulillah Masha Allah):

Also, I suggest 'Ma'ariful Qur'an' for Tafsir, probably the best currently available in English, Al-Hamdulillah Masha Allah. Another good tafsir is 'Illuminating Discourses on the Noble Qur'an':

Wa alaykum as-salam Sidi

The Noble Qur'an - A New Rendering of its Meaning in English by Abdalhaqq and Aisha Bewley. It is very readable, though does not contain a commentary.
