:salam:
After recent debates here I thought It would be beneficial to post the section from Imam Muhammad Ali al Nimawi's famous book of Hanafi fiqh proofs known as Athar al Sunan (alongside his own commentaries on this book: Ta'liq al Hasan and Ta'liq al Ta'liq), on specifically where the hands should be placed. Shaykh al Nimawi (d. 1322 AH) was one of the genius students of Imam Abdal Hayy al Laknawi of India. May Allah have mercy upon them both.
The section also shows the weakness in the oft quoted evidences used to advocate the folding of the hands upon the chest. This article will thus serve as an excellent counter reply to the likes of: Shamsul Haqq al Azimabadi (author of Awn al Ma'bud), Abdur Rahman al Mubarakpuri (author of Tuhfatul Ahwazi), Nasir al Albani and their cohorts in this age who have spread their words in English.
Though it is in arabic I would still recommemend that it is stored on your hard drives so that if you ever come across the adamant blind followers of the above named, who attempt to convince you that the Sunna is to place the hands upon the chest - then you may show the counter arguments - bi-idhnillah.
Athar al Sunan should soon be released in English, Insha'allah (see turathpublishing.com). Imam al Nimawi said in this work:
"This is a collection of hadiths, traditions, a collection of narrations and tidings which I have chosen from the Sahih, Sunan, Muj'am and Musnad collections. I have mentioned the source of each hadith but refrained from mentioning the complete chain of transmission for fear of lengthening the work. I have elaborated on the status of ahadith that are not from the two sahih collections (i.e. al-Bukhari and Muslim) in a satisfactory manner and have named the book Athar as-Sunan (The traditions of the Sunnahs) while simultaneously asking Allah for His decision. May Allah make this work purely for His Face and a means of meeting Him in the Gardens of Bliss."
Wassalam
