When is Ramadhan?

I thought I would start this thread now rather than when Ramadhan starts. So many times I spent the first few days complaining/disagreeing about the start date. I just wanted to prepare for it this time so that when we approach Ramadhan as a Shaykh said we are already "at jogging pace" rather than just "sluggishly starting".

I just want to get it all out and link to all the threads related to Difference of Opinion on this issue so that by the time Ramdhan comes and people visit the forums, this issue will have been put past on us and we can concentrate on reading/memorising/implementing the Quran.

JazakAllah khairun for that. Really interesting. Touches on the "real issues" behind this phenomenon. Unfortunately, I do still think that the sight of 3 mosques on the same street starting Ramadhan on a different day is likely to occur again this year.

Last year in my community it was a vote system

"Who wants to celebrate eid on Saturday?" Numbers of hands shot up and we all celebrate on Saturday.
