Asalaamu3alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu.
I wanted to share this with you because it is something important to me and each time I think of it, it reminds me of Allah's swt mercy.
My brother (Muhammad) died on the 11th of January 2007. My brother was never much of a practicing muslim. And I always adviced him to stop what he was doing. And I always made dua for him and Alhamdulillah Allah swt answered my prayer.
One day in December, we got a phone call from saudi arabia. It was my brother and he said that he was going to perform hajj. I was so happy when I heard this.
Alhamdulillah, he realised the importance of hajj and the devine mercy and forgiveness of Allah swt.
At first he was scheduled to return home on the 24th of January, but he changed his ticket to an earlier date. Whenever, I think of this Iam reminded that we can never avoid the time of our death and we will hasten to our place of death no matter what.
When he returned from hajj, he only stayed with his pregnant wife and two kids for only two days and on the third day, he was involved in a car accident.
My other brother told me of his dramatic change. He stopped the haraam things he was doing, he guarded his prayers, he cut off contact with the bad people he used to be friends with. He was a changed man, a true family man and he finally realised the importance of his deen.
I thank Allah each day for guiding him before his death. I believe that our grief would have been doubled if he had died in his old state.
Hadith 4 - 40 Hadith An-Nawawi
''... By Allah, other than Whom there is no god, verily one of you behaves like the people of Paradise until there is but an arm's length between him and it, and that which has been written over takes him and so he behaves like the people of Hell-fire and thus he enters it; and one of you behaves like the people of Hell-fire until there is but an arm's length between him and it, and that which has been written over takes him and so he behaves like the people of Paradise and thus he enters it."

This hadith really helped me to get over the loss of my brother. We should always remember the mercy of Allah and never give up hope or fall into despair.JazakaAllahu Khairan
