Does anyone know Hesham al-Awadi and dr. Bashar Shala ?
I found some lectures from both of them but I don't know what trend they are from, so I would like to know ibefore I start listening to it if they teach traditionnal islam or reformism (such as ikhwanism or salafism).

Assalam MuAlaykum,
I am currently listening to Dr. Bashar Shala series on Hazrat Omar (R.A), and it is a gripping series of lectures. (about 19 hours worth!!).
I would also like to know more about him, if anyone has any information.

Assalamu alaikum,
From what I've heard, and remember this is hearsay, Dr. Hesham al-'awadhi is Ikhwani type. But, I don't see why this should be a problem in listening to his lectures. As they don't seem to deal with any 'fiqhi' or 'i'itiqadi' issues.

Here is what I've managed to find about them :
Dr. Hesham al-Awadi was born in Koweit and educated in United Kingdom. He completed his Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, Master of Philosophy and PhD in the field of Middle Eastern politics and history in various British universities including the University of Cambridge. He also has a diploma in Islamic studies from the Institute of Islamic Studies, Cairo.
(I've reproduced verbatim the bio found in the beginning of Hesham al-Awadi's CD's)
Dr. Bashar Shala is a cardiologist and lecturer on Islamic history and law. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine (University of Aleppo, Syria) in 1990 and has been in the profession for 17 years. He currently practices Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology in Memphis, Tennessee.
A picture of him and more infos about his medical career can be found here :

I've listened to his series about the 4 imams and he is definitely ikhwani, he expresses his admiration for Sayyid Qutb and his brother Muhammad during the classes and he puts the emphasis on the acceptance of all Islamic groups including salafis.

AsSalam Alaykum, I am Bashar Shala and I would like to clarify that I am not "Ikhwani" and I have no connection with the group whatsoever. Allah swt ordered us to verify before we accuse others or slander them as in the Qur'an "fa tabbayyanu". I ask Allah to forgive the person who did this and I hope it was out of ignorance and not malice.
Jazakum Allah Khayr.

Good to see you here shaykh! I too have listened to your talks and benefited immensely. Inshallah please continue. One day if you can go through shaykh Ali salabis books on tareekh of islamic movements like murabitoon etc that would be awesome ;)
Many people are quick to try and catagorise people. but few are doing what you are.
Tolerance is what is needed in the age. We live in a global society and must look outside our sometimes narrow viewpoints - unfortunately many cant do this.
How many could make the sacrifice Sayyid Qutb did? or understand why and what opposition he encountered.
May Allah preserve you, walaykum assalam.

Salaam Alaikoum Shiekh,
I have listened to your lecture on the people of the Cave, and it was very enlightening masha'Allah. Do you give lectures abroad as in the UK, as I think a lot of people would benefit your lectures here in England insha'Allah.

It is reported that ‘Abdullâh b. Al-Mubârak – Allâh have mercy on him – said:
It is right that an intelligent person does not undervalue three [types of people]: the scholars, the rulers, and [his Muslim] brothers. Whoever undervalues the scholars will lose his afterlife, whoever undervalues the rulers will lose his worldly life, and whoever undervalues his brothers loses his good character and conduct.
Al-Dhahabî, Siyar A’lâm Al-Nubalâ`17:251.
It is reported that Abû Hâzim Al-Ashja’î – Allâh have mercy on him – said:
If you find yourself in a time when speech is accepted as knowledge and knowledge is accepted as deeds [instead of putting it into practice], then you are in the worst time and with the worst people.
Abû Bakr Al-Daynûrî, Al-Mujâlasah wa Jawâhir Al-’Ilm` 4:338.
Abû Hâzim Salmân Al-Ashja’î (died circa 100H) was one of the eminent Tâbi’în. He was a fully reliable transmitter of hadîth and a companion of Abû Hurayrah – Allâh be pleased with him.
Thus, I say, yaa Bashar Shala, may Allaah give you the good of what you have put forward and shelter you from other than that, my dear brother and friend!

Asalam Bashar,
I'm going through your Sahaba series now with enjoyment. but I just have to say 'ya Akhi scholars in your position are in great danger when receiving praise and recognition. Always fear Allah and know whatever talent we possess is a gift from Allah. Ar-Riaa scares me more than any sin and I just thought I'd remind myself & others of that. Forgive me if I offended in any way. My intention is for Allah. & Wallahi I love you for the sake of Allah. Persist in good works for as long as Allah wills .
Walakum asalam
