Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi (Syria)

Shaykh Muhammad descends from a scholarly family whose lineage goes back to
the Prophet, salla Allahu 'alayhi sallam, through his grandson Sayyiduna
al-Hasan, radiya Allahu 'anhu. His lineage goes back to Mawlay Idris
al-Anwar who built the city of Fes. Mawlay Idris' lineage is as follows: he
is the son of Mawlay Idris the Great; who is the son of Sayyiduna Abdullah
al-Kamil; who is the son of Sayyiduna al-Hasan, the Second; who is the son
of Sayyiduna al-Hasan, radiya Allah 'anhu; who is the grandson of the
Prophet, salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam.

absolutely awesome is all i can say really....

so much light, so much benefit, so much wisdom from one of the greatest living scholars on the face of the earth today..... May Allah reward Shaykh al-Yaqoubi abundantly!!

he truly is a mountain of knowledge, a combination of shari'a and haqiqa in action, a master of the inward and outward sciences of the deen....

as salamu alaykum

the things he said (relevant and irrelevant, but stuck in my mind) include:

1. it is obligatory to follow one of the four sunni schools

2. imam mahdi will be of ahl al-bayt

3. imam mahdi will be a mujtahid, and all the muslims will follow his ijtihad, even Isa (as) - he indicated this.

4. Imam Mahdi is imminent - although he was clear that no-one knows when exactly.

5. the signs of the end are divided into 3: minor, middle and major. all the minor signs have gone, we are in the middle, and awating the major which is heralded by the advent of Imam Mahdi

6. if you think the Muslims are in a bad state now, you are mistaken. expect worse. the time of Mahdi will be a time of great injustice and tyranny, the worst the ummah has seen. we haven't seen the worst yet,. and he made a point that the ummah suffered a great deal more at the hands of the Mongols.

7. having said that, we should not despair, and should have high spirits. do not waste your time pondering over the suffering when there is little you can do - hold on to your deen - and correct those around you, those you can have an influence upon, before commenting on the wider issues...

8. it is haram to sell weapons to non-muslims (and he includes oil as a weapon)

9. the rulers of the islamic world are among the worst people (something along those lines)

10. sunni's and shi'as should not fight - we have a common enemy.

other interesting points:

Shaykh Yaqoubi has the shortest isnad for a hadith on the face of the earth, a total of 23 people all the way back to our prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam).... and he is the 34th grandson of the prophet (s)....

....there were loads more interesting points, i will post as i remember insha Allah.

actually, a topic which came up earlier in this forum is whether there will be a khilafah before Mahdi, and the hadith stated that 'there will be a death of a khalifah....'

the Shaykh did not explicitly there will or will not be, however he did say that khilafah could simply mean ruler or sultan, not necessarily a true khalifah like that of the khulafah rashidun.....

secondly, my own inference from the talk was that Imam Mahdi will come at a time of the greatest tribulation, injustice - and hence how could it be a just khalifah or even a true 'islamic state'??

Think about that you have to do everything for Allah, if you didnt get the chance to see or join Mehdi A.S then its not a issue, but problem is that many people are sitting and waiting... thats not good i think... do what you can, dont think about some one to come and save you... inshAllah he will come thats true... but dont sit and wait... do something for islam possible for you to do.

well i'm new here but the present topic is Mashallah very intresting, so i thought to share some thngs which i know(heard) regardin the arrivl of Imam Mehdi(R). When i was about to leave for Hajj last year my friend told me some thng really very strange, he told me that in some of the riwayats it is said that, the year which experiences two Eclipses that year many people will die during Rami(pelting stones on the shaytans), this year Imam mehdi(R) will arrive and only the Muttaquies will recogonise him the while performing Umra(which is usually performed arter the Rami), and after that many incidents will occur(that is a long topic). I was more astonished when i heard a bayan by maulana sindhi (www.edars.com /sheikh sindhi/Signs Of Qiyamah/arrival of imam Mehdi(R)) sayin the same thng, I heard them recently and also suggest u all to go n download the complete series of the "Signs Of Qiyamah" infact try ur hand on all the batans by Maulana Sindhi they r very knowledge gainin bayans Mashallah.

Then i went for hajj, When i was goin for rami on the way a person came to us n told about the stampade taken place at jumraat, i was shocked , it was more then that, its really hard to describe that feeling i was very curious thinkin dat know there will be oneness in muslims but no news of Imam Mehdis arrival broke that year . then after few days i was in madina,one person told me that some of the Big Ulemas are considering that Inshallah Imam Mehdi will Appear in the 2005 Hajj (Allahu Alam) i'm sayin as i heard, i heard a Egyptian also sayin this he to is also a scholar, but u just cant totally belive these thngs as only Allah is the "Alim-UL-Ghayeb" any wez friends its important that we try to make our Imaan , its really important cuz i heard from a person dat when Imam Mehdi comes "Haq" and "Batin" will be seperated not only dat, Muslims and Munafiqs will also seperate. this is a very scary thng. Try to hold on tightly with deen cuz u cant say what is hiddin in the Next Hour. so be prepared n try to go out in the Path Of allah as much as possible to make ur imaan. and also do pray for me , i'm in very much need of it also the whole Ummah.

actually one thing Shaykh al-Yaqoubi made clear in the talk was that we don't have a date for the coming of the Mahdi. He said when the ulama mean that 'he is imminent', that means things are ready, or all the signs are there for his arrival.

secondly, he strongly emphasised that we must be ready for the end times, we must ready for our akhirah - and not 'wait around'.
