:salam:

I don't know if this thread should be in this section or not...but here goes nothing :)

I would like people's advice as to what type of translation to give to a non-Muslim(s) from the following:

1) Quran Made Easy by Mufti Afzal Hoosen Elias - Zam Zam Publishers (with Arabic)

http://www.azharacademy.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=1040

2) The same title above but without Arabic

http://www.azharacademy.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=1552

3) The Meaning of the Glorious Quran by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall (revised English by Dr. Sahib Mustaqam Blehr) - Islamic Dawah Centre International.

As well, if there are any other authentic (and I mean REALLY authentic :)) ones then feel free to let me know. However, I have the above 3 in mind.

I think the one by Mufti Afzal Hoosen Elias is a new one...but I have heard that it's written in a very fluid style and makes for compelling reading...It also has explanatory notes alongwith the translation which, I am sure, help the reader a lot

Anyway, I need suggestions here please :)

My personal preference will be "The meaning of the Quran" by Mufti Taqi Uthmani Saheb whose new publishing is available and is in absolutely wonderful english.

Mufti Afzal's project is nice one, but doesnt really cut it for mature readers...

One should give out the normal Arabic / English Quran. Hanafiya opinion is that English Alone translations cannot be published..

I know about Mufti Taqi Uthmani's translation that you are recommending. However, don't you think that would be too big for an intermediate non-Muslim reader? I have seen it's in 2 big volumes...

Secondly, it is too expensive for me too since I might be giving multiple copies to my friends...

Putting Mufti Taqi Uthmani's translation/commentary aside, what would you recommend; either from the above or any others?

Translation by Mufti Afzal is the easiest one to understand and very simple. You can understand what the verse is talking about without reading the Tasfeer.

By far the best translation is

The Qur'an with Annotated Interpretation in Modern English by Ali Unal.
