May Allah grant us tawfiq and taqwa, and let us imply what we learned there into our daily lives, and may he reward all the Shuyukh, organizers and students who attended the retreat and shower his endless barakah and rahma upon us, insha'Allah, Ameen.

If only it was longer I think that would be a real treat.
My son didn't want to leave. He had a really good time. Now things are getting back to normal here, yet I miss how he was there. He was independent enough to go back and forth between the cabins and campsite, if only he could do that in the house insha'Allah.
Yes the shaykhs did a fine job masha'Allah. Though I hope for next time they do space out the breaks a bit, perhaps have the classes in the mornings till lunch time then have a break to do activities or nap time then re start the classes again in the late afternoon and evening. It was pretty intensive that it was draining and straining. STill recovering.
Also it would be nice if they did try to get halal (zabeeha) meats there instead of kosher. Non zabeeha meat including kosher and I don't mix well together, I always end up getting ill over it.
P.S. did anyone leave anything at the campsite? My husband forgot a pillow and a cooler box. :( The camp directors dont seem too helpful in letting me know whether or not its there in their lost and found, they say they cant walk all over there to look for it and if its there, and I left a message with one of the organizers that they'll get back to me, though if I dont come to claim it within a week or so they'll keep it for themselves which is real bad as I had a lot of my kids stuff in there...

I asked the cooks, and double checked. They said it was kosher and that the halal meat was not available. When I asked a few of the other sisters some said that on Sunday and Monday the meat was halal, but the other days it will probably be kosher. Those meat rolls were kosher.

masha'Allah... yup that's him..a real charmer....
for those that weren't there and missed this great event and benfit.
My older son Ibrahim was serving pieces of clementines aka tangerines, aka seedless oranges to the students. First it was passed around on the sisters side, then I handed him a plate of it to be handed off on the brothers side.
LOL though it was real funny when Shaykh Muhammad Yaquobi was like, is the whole plate for me? and he's like no only 1... of course everyone laughed and im on the other side going huh what happened?
Yes I saw him bring back the plate which still had a few oranges on it as some brothers still tried to take some, and I said hey dont bring me back the plate with some of it on, leave it there for them to finish it and let it not go to waste. He said the oranges give people energy, and keep them awake to listen in the class.
masha'Allah.
another cute thing to share but will make another thread on it insha'Allah.

hmm found it through search and I guess the servers camp workers really had no clue the difference between kosher and zabeeha, they probably thought it meant all the same.

Erm.. Kosher meat is zabiha (http://www.sunnipath.com/resources/Questions/QA00000448.aspx).. In fact, I'd say it was more strictly zabiha than those slaughtered by muslims as they have extremely rigourous testing and certification procedures.
I'm not to fond of the "avoid it in protest of the treatment of our Palestinian brothers by evil Zionists" proviso however - very little money will go from kosher butchers (as they have high overheads as all the equipment has to be tip top and animals killed individually, hence they do not support the Israeli state in a way that say the US government would do, or more luxury commoditities.
Glad to hear the retreat was productive.

some kosher products contain wine in them and since they consider wine as halal, we dont... thats why there's doubt.
i think the whole point of me bringing that up kosher/zabiha was that if i eat something that is not zabiha, meat etc.. i end up feeling very lerthargic, and drained tired, and sick. Like stomach virus, either the rolls werent cooked properly (raw dough causing the aches, or raw meat) or that it was just me.
it wasnt until i had a few of these rolls that the person told me it was kosher so i was like oh, hmm...ok... I guess halal wasn't available. Allahu Alim.
overall it turned out be a good event, i heard the sun program though not a lot of ppl came, the closing fundraiser... i feel sad though about that cuz all the scholars are probably upset.

Kosher meat is still a heck of a lot more zabiha than zabiha meat. Kosher may be like that in certain areas, but in any orthodox area doing that would be most inadvisable (they're very particular about that).
Sorry to hear about your tummy sr UmmIbrahimIsa - food at event can be a dash sloppy at times.. :(

Kosher butchers tend to undergo far more rigorous and periodic testing to ensure they aren't cutting corners than halal butchers. In addition, the process of preparing kosher meat has to be correct in every detail, so even if they slip it can still be zabiha.
