Asslamo Allaikum,
Categorisation of Mosques in UK:
1) Moon was sighed in South Africa so Mosques following local (or closest moon-sighting) starting Ramadhan on Thursdays
http://wifaqululama.co.uk/home.html
2) Saudia started Ramadhan on completion of 30 days on Thursday
3) European council of Fatwa declared Ramdhan to be on Thursday
4) UK Islamic Mission declared Ramdhan to be on Thursday
That leaves a few Barelwee Mosques in Bradford & Rotherham (which I know of personally, may be there are more), apart from which we are ALL fasting from Thursday!
Don't you HATE the ALMOST bit!
P.S: Thursday = 13SEP07

What opinion were those masajid in Yorkshire following?
I assume it was the valid opinion of completing the 30 days of Shaban due to no moonsighting within Yorkshire.
p.s. We will never have unity on this issue until and unless we have a united board of all ulama in this country.
As long as we have unity on a regional basis is what i say, e.g. as long as all of Liverpool has the same start/end day that's cool.

I don't know, but to me it seems as if everyone started on Thursday in North America except California. If that's the case, then it's probably 90% on Thursday and the remaining on Friday.
But hey...it doesn't matter...

:salam:,
Since Ramadan has begun, I suggest you put the moonsighting issue on hold, preferably for good but at least in this month. I've noticed that you keep opening new threads on the same issue again and again. I thought I'd point that out to you.
wassalam,
SL
