Assalamu Alaikum SF Members,

In this blessed month of Ramadhan, I wanted to post some reminders for all of us:

1) Zakat- Many people take out their Zakat on the first day of this blessed month. I wanted to give a heads up to all the Baligh kids out there that if you own enough money which reaches the Zakat Nisab and you've had it for a year, then you have to give Zakat as well. Zakat is not only for older people or for married people or for parents. Many youngsters don't know this rule even though they have quite a bit of money in their bank accounts. All you Baligh kids out there, if you meet the requirements of Zakat, make sure you give your Zakat.

2) Sajdah Tilawat- Many times when we are reciting the Quran, we come across verses which we have to make Sajdah Tilawah but we don't make the Sajdah there and then. A friendly reminder that make sure we are making our ST's and if we have not done all of them, then this is a good month to start making them up so our account reaches 0.

3) Missed Prayers and Fasts- Many times when kids turn Baligh they don't realize that Prayers are Fardh upon them and continue to miss prayers. Only after a few years they realize that they have to perform all the five prayers. This is a good month to start making up those missed (Qadha) prayers. Same goes with Fasting. Young kids don't realize that they have to fast all the 29/30 days when they become Baligh but for no valid reason, they broke a couple of fasts. In such circumstances, the person has to keep 60 fasts continuously. This is a good time to ask ourselves if we broke any of our fasts after becoming Baligh (Mature) and if we did, let's make an intention to keep those 60 fasts in the upcoming winter months when the fasts are really short.

So three things:

1) Zakat
2) Sajdah Tilawah
3) Making up missed prayers and fasts

Jazakumullah
