Imam Baqir[AS] says: Islam is based on five things,
1. Wilayate
2. Salah
3. Zakah
4. Saum [Ramadan]
5. Hajj

Comment: Do you shia know what is missing in this list, the very fooundation of Islam on which the last four are based on "SHAHADA" so when you do not declare shahada and your Imam say not to do so then how do you axpect us to accept you as muslims. Why do you not go and talk to your imams at their shirines and see what they say. Do you shia ever read what is in your books or just listen to fairy tales by your zakirs.

No, for them to reject shahada would be for them to say there is no God of whom the Prophet (pbuh) is his last messenger. Wilayate has his messengership/leadership based in it from what I have seen - with the extension of this to the ahlul bayt wrt to spiritual and political leadership.

Having said that, I've seen the standard "sunni" shahada plus an extra bit that Ali is a saint of Allah (swt) being added on at the end by shia.

So they don't say specifically that Shahada is the first "pillar" of Islam. That doesn't mean that they don't SAY the Shahada and consider it necessary for becoming a Muslim.
