Assalamu-alaikum,
I do not intend to cause any fitnah with this post. But I genuinely require some answers... Mods pls delete the post if it offends.
In our local islamic center, the imam who leads the taraweeh reads from mushaf. Alhamdulillah the recitation is very beautiful and I enjoy the prayers. Some elders in the community told me that Imam reading from mushaf is a bidat and the prayers might not be valid.
Please advise if I should continue going to taraweeh there or look for alternatives?

Wa-alaikum Assalam,
Brother, mushaf is a term used for a printed Qur'an. So basically the imam is holding the Qur'an and reading from it while leading the taraweeh.

According to Hanafi Madhab, the salah is not valid. All those who are hanafi in the congregation will need to pray their taraweeh again.
Someone should advise the imam to take account for all the followers..

Insha-Allah I will talk to representatives of the shura council of the center. Its really their fault fo ask the imam to lead the taraweeh.

one of the principles in enjoying the right and forbidding the wrong one has to know the (khilaf) is in the situation the differing of the Imams on this issue.

Another point on these forum we all tend to rush to answer too quickly. Our niyyah should be that we are not answering the question but simply pointing someone in the right direction to get the answers through various resources. Our niyyah and states are only known by Allah.

It is acceptable to read from a mushaf in the sunnah prayers in the Maliki, Hanbali and the Shafi`madhahib. The validity of the followers prayer is based on the soundness of the Imam's prayer. Therefore, being that the Imam will be following an accepted 'sunni' position, in reading from the mushaf, both his and the followers prayers are valid.
The link (http://qa.sunnipath.com/issue_view.asp?HD=3&ID=4374&CATE=352) contains a quote from Imam Nawawi :rahim: saying that this is the position of the leading a'immah of the madhahib, with the exception of Imam Abu Hanifa :rahim:. Could either Abu Hajira or one of those knowledegable in Hanafi `usul confirm, or otherwise that the two Shaykhs disagreed with their Imam in this.
I really think that people need to have more discretion and consider the real time possible consequences of their statements on forums.

Why does they hold Mushaf while leading the taraweeh? Is it to ensure that they are not gonna make a mistake?

Or maybe there is no hafiz available and they want to finish the whole Quran. Once they invited a Shaikh from Azhar to lead in Taraweeh but he was not even Hafiz. So he would read while holding the Quran in hand.

JazakAllah for the replies. I am now enlightened with the different opinions on this topic. Insha-Allah I will continue going for taraweeh as there are no other alternatives.
In our islamic center there is a mixed congregation of Shafee's and Hanafis. So with my intention of following the imam I will continue. Insha-Allah.

Asslamo Allaikum,
Depends on the Imam & if he is a Hanafi or Salafi then this is not accepted as Sunnah
And accoring to Hanafi Madhab this is not permissable:
http://www.askimam.org/fatwa/fatwa.php?askid=4f0ac3e04a5e9b5cd469faba00f48ef7
The fatwa on SP is applying a ruling of Shaf'ae School to followers of Hanafi Madhab and giving a Fatwa and as it is admitted, "[Note, however, that the more famous position of the Hanafi school is that such a congregation would be invalid. This is difficult to apply in mixed communities. And Allah knows best.]"
