Assalamu 'Alaikum

I am considering purchasing the English translation of Tafsir al Qurtubi by Aisha Bewley, but can anyone help me out with a few questions..

Is this tafsir well regarded?

Is the translation good?

I can see the first volume available on islamicbookstore.com, but no others.. This only covers Fatiha and Baqara. Does anyone know if the rest is forthcoming? (perhaps any of the Murabitun brothers..)

Yiy... hate to bump my own thread, but is there really no-one who knows if the rest of this translation will be available at some point, or will it just be Volume 1??

Asslamo Allaikum,

Here is the translation of Mufti Taqi Usmani (DB):

Introduction will tell you who he is if you don't know.

The translation is much appreciated, very useful and concise. Some of the more complex fiqh related discussions have been abridged/omitted....

It is hoped that the other volumes will be published but this is presently on hold while other 'projects' are brought to fruition, including the recently published translation of 'Tafsiru'l-Jalalayn and a translation of Ibn Juzay's 'Tafsir' (the title slips my mind at present).

with peace

Laughing Lion, thanks very much : ) I'm a little disappointed that the fiqh material was abridged or omitted, since my interest is fiqh, and I thought that was the emphasis on this tafsir.. But still, until I improve my Arabic I need the translations. So i'll take your post as a positive recommendation.. From my time lurking on this forum, I think I recognise you as a murabit.. There was a forum up at one point (Ribat or something like that), but it went down very quickly. Do you have another web location where the curious can ask questions?

Muadh Khan: That appears to be the translation of the Quran... if you do have a link to a translation of Al Qurtubi, that would be appreciated : )

Yes, I share your 'disappointment'. But in all honesty the book is 700+ pages and publishers interests play a part in what comes off the press. Still its a valuable contribution and should be in every English speaking Muslims library, along with the tafsiru'l-jalalayn.

There are hundreds of Murabitun on FaceBook, not myself. And the only other web based resource, other than our Shaykh's site, is the Muslims of Norwich (http://www.muslimsofnorwich.org.uk/home.asp) site. It hasn't been updated since last weeks 30 th anniversary...You should try to visit Norwich, where there are plenty of beneficial gatherings throughout the week (Monday, thursday, Friday, Sunday) or visit us in Burton on trent, where we gave regularly on a Sunday. There's nothing like meeting the people.

Visiting would be nice, but difficult to do from New Zealand. One day Inshallah.

 Insha'llah. Your always welcome. Maybe Malaysia or South Africa would be easier for you.
