There is no such thing as a deobandi in reality, they are not a separate group or sect or anything like that. The word started coming in use to represent ulama who had been educated at the dar al uloom in Deoband, UP, India and or those who studied in dar al ulooms that follow the same methodology as that found in Deoband, such as Dar al Uloom Karachi. But deobandi are just plain sunni muslim. He follow the hanafi madhab and the sunni aqeedah.

W-Salam,

This is a very difficult question.:$

I am not a Deobandi, yet I agree with them 90%+ of the times.

I don't really think technically that there is such a thing as a Deobandi, is there?

There is no such things as deobandi sect, both brelwis and deobandis are hanafi maturidis. The bickering and hatred between some of them is unwarranted and a big shame in my humble opinion. There are some differences of opinion between deobandi and brelwis such as the celebration of mawlid, urs of awliyah etc but i don't believe that these differences are very serious differences.

Well ulema of deoband are represented by " Qasmi "
just darul uloom in present in deoband(its name of village actually) so people call them as deobandi, in practical there is nothing more.

The way I see it, a Deobandi scholar would be one that traces there academic lineage back to the original great handful of scholars of Deoband. Either directly or indirectly through the institution they studied at.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
