I have a sister who reads the "harry potter" book like one should read the Quraan! Honestly looking at her makes me think of Hazrat Uthmaan and his devotion to the holy Quraan! Correct me if im wrong but im sure your not allowed to read such books that gets you all hypnotized especially when its all about magic and whatever it is (im not sure cos i hate that book).
So what d'you all fink?( Hope there arent any Potter fans out there )

I wonder if the Muslims had this much controversy with the Arabian nights?

Any time I picked up a fiction book or novel.. I said to my self.. You are not a fluent reader, and you will spend hours on this book...and on top of that you will be accountable for the time you spend on this book..this much trouble and then justify it to Allah as well.. why not read something beneficial..
thinking that I put it down and start reading some Islamic book.. :)

Salam,
Well said!
I was a fan of Robert Ludlum many years ago...somehow there was a lesson to be learnt...I was reading one of his novel, in a train journey to an airport in one particular country..there sharing the same berth was a group of brothers...whose language I could hardly understand...One of the brothers was pointing at my book and mentioned in a laud and audible voice. I picked that remarks and scribbled it on the front page of the book. As I wanted to understand what he actually commenting on.
He pull his book to read too...it was an arabic book.
That remarks from this dear brother leaves a mark in my life...the remark that he made was...'Oh my God she is reading "TRASH" !!!!'
Upon reaching home I trashed all of Ludlum's collections out into the bin....
No more fictions for me!!!..

it'll wear off eventually insha'Allah. I used to be a harry potter fan, but realized its a waste of time. Islamic history and stories are way more 'fantastic' ;)
