Bismillah,
Assalamu alaikum.
You should shred it up and bury it, but bury it in a place where it will not be walked upon, or shred it up and burn it.
InshaAllah, I hope this helps.

Slmz, just wanted to know (1) what does one do if you do not know of any places where you can bury it in a safe place and (2) if you burn it then what do you do with the ashes?

:salam:
You shouldn't really burn it unless there is no other alternative. It's better to put it in a river, stream, lake, etc if you can't bury it. If you do burn it however, the ashes become insignificant.
And Allah knows best
