Can someone comment on;

-The ruling of it, before and now.
-How it came about..

I was reading how it was not something allowed, and the way it came to this world, or the discovery of it, via a dream of a shaykh...

Any "starbuks" fans here, care to assist....

A few years ago, in my Social Studies book, they said "It gained popularity all around the Muslim World, even though the Prophet Mohamamd forbid it". :rolleyes: So it must have some source for this, but the book was authored by some Jew I think.

i heard from a very reliable source that the Melveli Tariqa have a special affinity towards coffee.. they have different levels of coffee-makers... and somehow coffee seems to be a favoured drink also of the Shadhilli's (not shure abt this tho).. so it wud seem to me that coffee is allowed.... may be its the coffee tht involves alcohol (like coffee with brandy) that aint allowed

I always heard Coffee was developed by the Sufis to help them stay awake to do dhikr.

I did hear that there have been rulings that coffee was unlawful in the past in the Muslim world.

this came as a complete shock to me!!!!
anyway, i think coffee is allowed but the reason for some people saying its haram is maybe bcause it contains caffeine. i drink coffe but i drink kenco decaf.
if u dont now what caffeine is its a type of drug.
