I was watching this video with Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and he had the Blessed Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)'s hair in a little jar and people were kissing it and putting it on their heads and then kissing it again. I was just wondering what this is

1) Supposed to do
2) What's the basis of the action?
3) What's the origins?

I was just wondering,

Jazakallahu Khayrun

I know Shaykh Hisham Kabbani. The woman who come, and ask for dua he does it on there head when they are covered with Hijab, i have seen Habib Umar Bin Hafiz, Habib Ahmed Mushur, and other great awliyah do this, the women in this country will come and try to kiss your hand if you are a shaykh, what should you do? Say no and make them run away? It is very hard sometimes, only Allah knows, he used to tell us he felt bad because women were coming and trying to touch him, and he was avoiding them and they were feeling very bad. When he gives Bayah he makes women hold the end of his cane, i know him well, PEOPLE WHO JUDGE WILL BE JUDGED on the day of judgement, go learn from experiance before judging someone by watching a video, this is never the way he handles himself, what can he do though as a shaykh? He is always aware and tries to avoid, sometimes it doesnt work though, Allahu Alim, but dont judge someone especially when they are Hafiz of Quran and they have memorized over 50,000 Sahih Hadith like Shaykh Hisham, he is infact a scholar and tries to avoid anything that is against sunnah, but sometimes he cant because he would rather him be the one who looks bad then that person feel bad or run away.

This is what we are doing now after more than 1400 years have past. We are in fact not 100% sure whether these are really the Prophet's relics.

What did the companions do when the Prophet was among them alive?

What did the companions do after the demise of the Prophet when they possessed plenty of relics they knew for sure that those were from the Prophet?

It is authentic according to 6 Islamic historical schools in Saudi, and 3 in Istanbul, infact, Topkopi Museum was trying to purchase that hair from Shaykh Hisham. He recieved the hair from an authentic lineage and he has all the paper work to show that it is authentic.

As for letting women kiss the hand of a sheikh without anything preventing direct contact, this is sinful and clearly, a sheikh is supposed to set an example. If he does not, who will; if the ladies cannot take advice from a man they respect, who will they take advice from.

---------------------------------

As for seeking blessing through relics of the Prophet (salla-llâhu ^alayhi wasallam) this is the sunnah encouraged by the Messenger himself (^alayhi ssalâtu wassalâm)

Narrations from alBukhâriyy and Muslim confirm that during the last Pilgrimage performed by the Prophet (salla-llâhu ^alayhi wasallam),Hijjatu lWadâ^, our master Muhammad (^alayhi ssalâtu wassalâm) distributed his shorn hair. The Prophet threw the pebbles at Jamratu l^Aqabah, slaughtered a sheep and distributed its meat among the poor, then shaved his head. He shaved the right side of his head and gave his hair to Abű Talhah alAnsâriyy; then he shaved the left side of his head, gave the hair to Abű Talhah, and told him to distribute it among the people. Some received one hair, others two, and so on.

The Prophet (salla-llâhu ^alayhi wasallam) personally handed some of his hair to people near him, including Umm Sulaym and Abű Talhah, for them to distribute among the people. In this way, the hair of the Messenger of Allâh (^alayhi ssalâtu wassalâm) was spread in the Muslim countries. He distributed his hair among the people in order for them to seek blessing (barakah) through it.

Likewise, the Prophet (salla-llâhu ^alayhi wa^alŕ 'âlihî wasallam) distributed his nail clippings among the people, as stated by Imam Ahmad in his Musnad. These actions clearly indicate the permissibility of seeking benefit from prophetic relics.

The Companions sought blessings from other "'âthâr" of the Prophet (salla-llâhu ^alayhi wasallam) as well. Imam Muslim related in his Sahîh that Asmâ', the daughter of Abű Bakr, showed some people an article of clothing (jubbah) worn by the Messenger of Allâh (^alayhi ssalâtu wassalâm) which had been at the house of her sister, ^Aa'ishah. When ^Aa'ishah died, Asmâ' got the jubbah. The Companions sought the blessings from this jubbah by using the water in which it had been soaked to treat the sick and cure his illness. Radiya-llâhu ^anhum.

AtTabarâniyy and Imam Ahmad narrated from the route of Ibn Hadhyam that he went with his grandfather, Hadhyam, to the Prophet (salla-llâhu ^alayhi wasallam). Hadhyam said to the Messenger of Allâh (^alayhi ssalâtu wassalâm): "I have sons and grandsons, some of whom are pubescent and others still children." Motioning to the young child next to him, he said: "This is the youngest." The Prophet (salla-llâhu ^alayhi wasallam) brought this young child whose name was Hanzalah next to him, wiped on his head, and told him, "Bâraka-llâhu fîk," which means: 'May Allâh bless you.' After that, people started to bring Hanzalah a person with a swollen face or a sheep with a swollen udder. Hanzalah would place his hand on that part of his head the Prophet wiped, then touch the swollen part and say "Bismi-llâh," and the swelling would be cured.
