It is a collection of rulings from the Shafi'i school.
That doesn't mean that is ONLY for Shafi'is. But it means that it may not agree 100% with the rulings of the other schools.

The first half of the book contain the shafi'i fiqh points, where as the second half the book is actually a section of notes that would probably be beneficial to muslims of any (or no) madhab. These are the pieces in the notes section:
Why Muslims follow Madhabs
Hadiths that the mujtahid imams lacked
A warning against careless accusations of unbelief
The acceptance of Fate
Scholarly Consensus (Ijma)
Transliteration Note
Supporting Family Members
Students of Sacred Law Acceptin Zakat
Taking a Guide to Allah
The Place of Sufism in Islam
The meaning of reaching Allah
Why Legal Scholars differ
The Meaning of Ijtihad

im hanafi and want to learn my fiqh and have already bought the book, would it be best to avoid reading the fiqh section as it may confuse one?

Yes, I recommend you don't read the first part, as it may cause confusion. Unless one are grounded in Hanafi fiqh, one shouldn't read Shafii or any other fiqh. Otherwise one would be doing an action and think "What's the ruling on this?" and a Shafii ruling would pop up in one's head.

I STRONGLY recommend that you NOT try to teach yourself a madhhab by reading books.
Please, sister, find a teacher who can teach you. And make sure that your teacher was taught in the proper way by qualified shaykhs.
The Prophet :saw: said that "knowledge [comes] only through study." (ie. study at the foot of a shaykh)

Although I agree with you, that's not possible anymore Sidi
These days we are forced to take knowledge from books. Better to take knowledge from Reliance of the Traveller than to pick up Sahih Bukhari and start creating rulings!
Of course, if one can find a Shaykh, then by all means, study under him

Umm Sahl (Shaykh Nuh's Wife) is currently translating a Reliance of the Traveller "equivalent" for the Hanafis.
But for now, you should try qa.sunnipath.com. Go ahead and read all of the answers in the Hanafi section. Also consider taking a course at SunniPath since they have wonderful courses.
