Assalamu Alaikum,
I came across a really good video lecture delivered on March 7, 2008 at IIOC in Anaheim, California by Sheikh Junaid Kharsany titled:
"Teaching Children Islamic Knowledge: The Neglected Priority"

Here's Sh. Junaid's bio from http://www.darulhikmah.com/
Shaykh Junaid Kharsany was born in Durban, South Africa in 1975. He was blessed to complete the memorization of the Holy Qur'an at the tender age of fifteen.
Shaykh Junaid began his higher Islamic studies at the famed Madrasah 'Arabiyya Islamiyya in Azaadville, South Africa and completed his formal education there in 1996. While there, he immersed himself in the study of Arabic, fiqh, hadith, the Qur'an, and all their related sciences.
He began teaching Islamic studies soon after at the Islahul Muslimeen seminary in Sherwood, Durban and taught the higher religious sciences there, such as hadith and tafsir, for five years.
Shaykh Junaid has long been involved in the work of da'wah and religious propagation and has served as a social worker and leader for a number of communities. He has also served as a supervisor for the educational board of the Jamiat Ulama Kwazulu Natal in the past and is currently serving as an Imam of Masjid Jamat Islam in Inglewood, California.
He is also the founder of the Riyadhul Uloom Institute in Torrance, California, an educational institute that provides maktab, hifz, and adult educational services. Shaykh Junaid is married and is blessed with six children.
