This is your question:

My answer:

Can you also include the transliteration (how to pronounce it so that we can pronounce it correctly)

e.g. Hal anta jalisun amamal hasubun (or is it husubun)?

e.g. Hal anta jalisun amamal hasubun (or is it husubun)?

Hal anta jalisun amamal hasubi

The reason hasubun (computer) is in the genitive case is cos there is an adverb (amama= infront) and a noun proceeded by an adverb takes the kasra i.e. genitive case.

Also hasubun (computer) in my question is a definite noun, cos im trying to say 'the computer' not 'a computer'. And to make a noun definite the particle 'al' (the) is placed at the begining of the noun and the the tanwin is removed and is replaced with a short vowel... When one sees the particle 'al' proceeding a noun it should straight away indicate that the noun proceeding 'al' can't end in a tanwin, but rather a short vowel. Hence it will not be 'hasubun' but hasubi

Hope this is clear inshallah

:ws: and :jazak: for the explanation.

here goes. correct me if I'm wrong.

نعم, الآن أذهب الى المسجد لاقامة الصلوة

Na'am (yes), Al-aan (now) adh-habu (I am going) ila (to) al masjidun (the masjid, the mosque) li-iqamati (to perform ?) ash-sholati (prayer)

muslim forever
23-05-2008, 06:04 PM
Salaam,

'Al masjid' is proceeded by ila (to), which is a preposition, and therefore it would take the genitive case and not a dammah. Therefore it will be read as 'al masjidin' not as 'al masjidun' (I think).

Also,

أذهب means 'i go' (imperfect)

ذاهِبٌ (dha hi bun) means going. 'Going' is an active participle.

therefore the sentence (pls correct me if im wrong) perhaps should be written and said as the following:

نعم,الآن انا ذاهِبُ الى المسجد لاقامة الصلوة

Na'am (yes), Al-aan (now) ana dha-hi bun (I am going) ila (to) al masjidin (the masjid, the mosque) li-iqamati (to perform ?) ash-sholati (prayer)

Also can I just ask is 'al aan' (now) an adverb or just a particle like 'wa' (and)? I don't know u see.

Please feel free to correct me if im wrong on anything.

:ws:

:ws: so therefore, if we want to differentiate the meaning of the word, we can just add time to the sentence? like

اذهب الى المدينة غداًً

Adh-habu (I will be going) ila (to) al-madinati (the city) ghadan (tomorrow).

:salam:

:jazak: everyone for the posts.

I have another suggestion: we should have rules so that the conversation won't get out of hand. For example

1. for each reply, the poster must answer the previous question, then ask question. please quote the question so that people will know what the question was.

2. if you don't know arabic, you can ask in english and let other knowledgable person answer first that question, before moving on other question.

3. if you know arabic and want to post, this is how you post:
a. Answer to the question in arabic. If there is correction to the question/answer before, correct them first before answering the next question. Quote the incorrect version of the sentence and add correct version.

b. Transliteration and meaning in the bracket for each ayat.
Ana (I) min (from) Makkah (Makkah)

c. Question in arabic, with the transliteration and meaning.

4. Where to type arabic : http://arabic.speak7.com/arabic_keyboard.html
Use font size 4 and above. just type [ SIZE=4 ] words [ /SIZE ] (remove spaces)

This will ensure that we can have better understanding in Arabic :insh:

Forgive me if this is too much. If anybody can simplify the rules that would be great. The purpose is just to get full use of it. :jazak:

Idea of the above was for others to try and translate it - even using a dictionary - specially for the students of knowledge.

Alhamdulillah, from my experience best way to learn is read arabic books using a dictionary - basic arabic books - and try and learn new words every day.

My best nahw/sarf book was sharh ibn aqeel.

Im not gonna translate or transliterate - waiting to see others try.

I've primarily done self study with the Medina Arabic books. I've studied the Ajrumiyyah with a brother and listened to the classes from Shariah Program when they did Hidayah al-Nahw . I've been studying on and off for a few years. The problem is I haven't been consistent at all. Hence my arabic is really weak. 'Al masjid' is proceeded by ila (to), which is a preposition, and therefore it would take the genitive case and not a dammah. Therefore it will be read as 'al masjidin' not as 'al masjidun' (I think).

correct pronounciation will be al-masjidi (without the tanween), remember alif laam and tanween do not go together.

Assalamulaikum, one thing that i have noticed is that when the brothers and sisters write arabic they miss out the hamza on top of the alif or below it. Remember that alif is not a consonant it does not have a sound of its own, its only a vowel. as the hamza cannot sit on its own the alif (in many cases) functions as its repository. So just writing an alif without the hamza is like putting a chair in front of the mic without the speaker. It is very important that you remember this. I cross out a mark for every hamza missed by my students at uni.

A few days later I received an invitation to speak on Malaysian politics...in Arabic! I said my Arabic was primary school level but since that invitation I have been watching Jazeera for Children on Sky coz that's the only Arabic channel I can get! Oh I wish I could have a proper conversation face2face with an Arabic speaker every day...even if it was for 10 minutes...

Assalaamu Alaikum,

Dear Muslim Brothers & Sisters,

I had requested you to kindly duwa in favor of me and my family. I need that very much. May Allah listen your duwa faster then others?

So, please do duwa as much as you can for my freedom as my kids (9/7) and lonely wife is waiting for me at home.

Jazak Allah

Wassalaam

May Allah ease the difficulties you and your family are going through.
اِنّ معَ الْعُسرِ يُسْرًا
With every difficulty there is ease.
i don't really know what you are experiencing, but make Allah your best friend..... He will definitely help you. Almighty Allah is much more merciful than a mother. He will have mercy on you.
But then.... dont forget Him when things get rosy and sweet ;)
