Occasionally you will see Mufti Barkatullah [Deoband graduate], Sh. Haytham Tamim of Utrujj [an Ashari], and this other Bengali shaykh (can't remember his name but he mentions Mufti Taqi alot) - they are pretty good.....
......but most of the time you get Salafis.

is it just me or does that channel send out confusing, mixed messages?
is it a 'salafi' channel or a hanafi channel (with deobandi leanings)?
oftentimes the 'shaykhs' on the Q&A prog give verdicts contrary to hanafi rulings....wagwan there???
are they "multi-madhabi" or what? they need to clarify cos ppl are getting misled....in my experience some ppl in my family. im having to re-educate my family each time they watch certain shaykhs on there.

on a different note tho...
who is that nasheed artist who sings that nasheed about "truth, justice and harmony" and the new one about Allah's names and attributes?
he's got a nice soulful voice mashallah and a good acapella crew.
[im not talking about the 4 men in white jubbas with daffs]

I am experiencing the same problems as 'cantthinkofausername' in that a lot of my friends and family watch the programme but end up getting confused as they are hearing things which are often contrary to the teachings of the Ahl-us-Sunnah. Who is the channel actually ran by as there seems to be a definite influence of Wahabism in the speeches of the speakers I have heard. Could anyone shed some light as to who these scholars are and which programmes feature sound 'ulama.

Assalamu 'Alaikum. I think the Bengali Sheikh you're referring to is Sheikh Hasan Ali. He's a religious studies teach in an Islamic college (Ebrahim Community College) in London. He's pretty good. He produced a lot of good talks.
I personally don't watch Islam channel much. Most of the programmes are really cheesy. I just watch the qur'an recitation. One of the qaari's voice is superb!
Jazakallahu Khair.

Does this mean that the channel will be getting rid of the salafi spakers. This can only be good for the masses. May Allah ta'ala give them the taufeeq to further the propogation of true Sunni Islam.

Salam,
whenever i see the IslamQ&A program on the channel, i always hear something which goes against the mainstream sunni beliefs - eg:
a) you CANNOT make up qaza prayers
b) three talaaqs in one sitting only counts as one
c) taking bayah with a shaykh and performing zikr in a group is a bidah
d) doing khatm is a bidah
and i've only watched it a couple of times!

ٰAppears it is a la-madhab's channel. Many ghayr muqallideen tend to put forward some "tablighi" scholars, who mention names of sunni scholars like Maulana Tariq Jameel, Mufti Taqi Usmani, to cover up , and when it comes to the Q&A, they answer according to their own way.

I think that you are referring to Maulana Hasan Ali - who is an excellent shaykh [Deobandi trained] - he often comes out with interesting stories, like why Mufti Taqi changed his opinion regarding prawns - apparently he went to Bangladesh, some Mufti's house and the Mufti only cooked prawn dishes for him [knowing full well that Mufti Taqi's view at the time was that prawns were not allowed]. So obviously Mufti Taqi was a bit miffed and the two started to have a debate - few hours later the Bengali Mufti [can't remember the name] convinced Mufti Taqi of the proofs............and the rest is history.

Q. Are prawns halal according to the Hanafi's?
A. Assalam Alaykum
The permissibility of eating prawns or otherwise [according to the Hanafi Fuqaha] depends on whether they are considered from the fish family or not.
Many scholars of the Arabic language like Zabeedi, Fayrozabadi and others have considered prawns as fish. On the other hand the contemporary zoologists do not consider prawns as fish as they do not have a spine..
Normally, the ruling of such issues are not based on technical research rather it is based upon the understanding of the common people, and we have learnt that according to the understanding of the scholars of the Arabic language prawns are considered fish.
Moreover, according to the other 3 schools of Fiqh, to eat prawns is totally permissible which makes a leniency in the ruling.
Therefore it is permissible to eat prawns, but to refrain and abstain is always advisable.
Only Allah knows best
