Salam everyone,

First I am new to this forum so if this has been answered, I was unable to find in my short search. Right then. So this Ramadan I will be have to travel, specifically on the 15th of September, right in the middle of it all. I am traveling from California to England and will be traveling on a plane that will during daylight for the majority of time. How and when can I break fast? Would it be a fair compromise to simply break fast in accordance to the time zone of one of the two regions (example following the times in California, so breaking fast when I normally would, even if I can see daylight outside the plane). I know Allah does not want us to have hardships and wants this to be a time of reflections, but I also do not want to physically collapse while traveling because I have not eaten for 24hrs +. Thanks for all the help.

Welcome to the forum brother.

I'm sure other people will post better options but let me pass on mine.

How about not fasting at all since you will have an extremely long flight. So what you do is, don't make an intention to fast on the 15th of September even if your flight is at like 10 AM. Once you have reached England, you can start fasting on the next day. For the fast you have missed, you can make it up after the month of Ramadhan.

I agree with the Shaykh above. As you have mentioned, Allah does not want to put us into hardship and we have been given this option when travelling.

Following on from this - I'm actually going to be going on a business trip roughly on 26-28th September 2008, the traveling time itself will only be a few short hours flight time.

However I'm unsure as to if I should be making up my fast once I'm back in the UK? (As I'll be with a lot of work colleagues and am unsure as to what the conditions will be) or if i should keep my fasts whilst abroad....

Let me know your thoughts,
