Salaam,

For a while now I've been thinking about giving bayah and have become very familiar with the Naqshbandi Mujaddadi tariqah but since there are no local Mashaikh of this tariqah I never really moved forward with this.

However, I've been regularly attending the Islahi gatherings of a local Maulana who I believe belongs to the Ashrafiyah tariqah and is a student of Hazrat Maseehullah Khan (db). I'm now thinking of approaching this Maulana and asking him to help me develop myself spiritually. However, I don't know much about this tariqah compared to the Naqshbandi Mujaddadi so I thought I'd ask here if anyone can share some information about it.

I have read the book, "Path to Perfection", and am familiar with the web site, www.ashrafiya.com. I don't really understand Urdu otherwise there would be so much more resources I can benefit from. If anyone knows of any other useful English resources to study this tariqah I would really appreciate if you could share them.

Also, if anyone can tell me what the beginning lessons of this tariqah involves and what the basic mamulaat are that would also be very helpful.

Jazakhallaahu khair in advance.

Zahid

wa alaykum as salam

Please, read in detail the following links (multiple times),

1. The beginning lessons of this tariqah involves (http://www.ashrafiya.com/about/) and

2. The basic mamulaat (http://www.ashrafiya.com/instructions-for-the-seeker/)

3. Make it a habit to pray(dua) after each salah:
“O Allah! I want to live by Shariah.
My nafs and Satan have overtaken me.
Please, remove these obstacles
and make it easy for me to do so.
Give me the determination & strength for this and
provide me with a Sheikh who can help me in this effort.”
Ameen. (This is also from the same site.)

JazakAllah

I strongly recommend that you get the following books which basically explain tasawwuf through the teachings of Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi Rah (i.e., the ashrafiya tareeqah). I think this is the best book on tasawwuf in English. It is very easy to understand.

Spiritual Discourses Volume 1
Spiritual Discourses Volume 2
Spiritual Discourses Volume 3
Spiritual Discourses Volume 4

All these books are translation of Hazrat Mufti Taqi Usmani saheb db's lecture on soul purification.

They are readily available. If you are in UK try azhar academy or darul ishaat. In US try albalagh and Madania.org.

Assalamu'alaykum,

First of all, apologies for not replying sooner despite the prompt responses to my post...

Jazakhallah for posting these links. Even though I regular read this web site and have seen both these articles it wasn't until you pointed them out and specifically said to read them multiple times that I felt like I benefited from them. I have also printed the dua on small piece of paper to read after every salah.

Regarding the mamulaat, before reading the link you mentioned, I had referred to the original translation of "Shariat & Tasawwuf" (aka "The Path to Perfection) where it gives a detailed daily schedule. I don't do everything but try to be regular with some of the suggestions.

I've also looked at the recommendations by Maulana Hakeem Akhtar (db) and Maulana Muhammad Zakariya (db) online which are similar but not the same. Inshallah, when I choose the right Shaykh for me I'll be able to settle on a concrete schedule to follow.

Subhanallah, the Imam of my local mosque suggested the same books, inshallah I will buy them when I have some spare cash. Do you have any idea if these are available online?

Bro, which student of Hadhrat Maseullah Khan Sahib do you live close to?

It's Maulana Muhammed Patel Sahib. There's a short description on another post here... http://www.sunniforum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=273781&postcount=3.

You can also listen to his weekly tafsir/islah bayans at his new web site... http://www.miftahuljannah.org

By the way, where do u live brother?

I live in Leyton, which is very close to Walthamstow (East London). Only a 5-10 minute drive from Maulana's weekly classes alhamdulillah.
