Moazzam Begg
Moazzam Begg is one of nine British citizens who were held in Guantánamo Bay by the government of the United States of America. Begg was labelled an "enemy combatant" by the US government, and imprisoned without charge or trial for a crime he didn't commit. In the three years he spent in custody, much of it in solitary confinement, he was subjected to over three hundred interrogations, as well as beatings, death threats and torture, witnessing the killings of two detainees. Since his release he has been working with the human rights organisation, Cageprisoners, campaigning for those who remain in Guantanamo.
Moazzam will be joined by Victoria Brittain, former associate foreign editor of the Guardian. She is co-author of Moazzam's book Enemy Combatant, and with Gillian Slovo, compiled the play Guantánamo. Her previous books include Hidden Lives, Hidden Deaths and Death of Dignity. She is a patron of Palestine Solidarity, on the editorial board of Race and Class, a Trustee of Widows Rights International, and on the national executive council of the Respect Coalition.
