ws,

Thanks for replying. I've reading up on sufism and this book seems very spritual, especially as i have learnt that Abd al Qadir Jillani is connected to Muhammed(SAWS).

As i said earlier it has been a long time since i read it but from what i can recall that a few incidents of Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA) seem to be exaggerated, therefore do not take every incident mentioned to be authentic. It would have been better if the book was referenced properly in order to establish the authenticity of some the incidents mentioned.
Another point was i think towards the end there was something mentioned on the interpretation of certain dreams, very few people are well grounded in the interpretation of dreams and the way the chapter gives general conotations on certain dreams may lead to misinformation amongst people.
However, overall it is an excellent read and very inspirational.
An excellent book by the Shaykh is 'The Sublime Revelation' which was an excellent read and for people who understand arabic, I would advise them to read the arabic version of the book. One thing i learnt from this book was the emphasis laid on tauhid. There a few other books i have not been able to get hold off, however, i have heard that they are excellent.

Imam Ghazali has written numerous books in a host of fields (e.g philosphy, sufism etc) which are simply outstanding. I think the most well known work is ihya-ul-uloom.
If you are looking for something spiritual I would highly recommend 'spiritual discourses' by Mufti Taqi which is a very easy read.

There's nothing in Sirr al-Asraar (Secret of Secrets) that is questionable.
Talking about a few incidents, well the book is not a story book but a book written by Shaykh Abd-ul-Qaadir al-Jilani :anhu:. So these incidents do not exist in the main text, while some editors might have included a foreword to give some information about Hadhrat. It's a great book, and i would say it's a perfect read for someone interested in tassawuf.

It doesn't matter in what language one reads it as long as the translation is fair.
No such incidents are mentioned in the main text itself, but like i said some forewords might include certain stories. So it all comes down to what edition is in ones posession. But if what is in your posession only includes the text intself, then there is nothing objectional whatsoever. It's a book written by Hadhrat, not about them.

I have not got the book in my possesion at the moment, however, from what i recall there was an incident narrating the respected shaykh bringing a chicken bone back to life. That incident from what i recall was not referenced. Another point was seeing snakes in dreams, if you please post that bit we can discuss it.

I understand, but that is not a part of the actual book. So i guess it must be a foreword written by the translator or the publishers.

Assalamu alaikum
This is my first post on this site. Seeing that i really enjoyed this book. The interpretation i read was by SHAYK TOSUN BAYRAK AL-JERRAHI AL-HALVETI. I think that it is a good book to read.
