I was trying to break down the translation of some hajj duas word by word so I could be aware of the meanings if I read them. But im having a terrible time with these few verses. Searched all my dictionaries and word references but couldnt find many of these words. As you can see most of the words i filled in are wrong and there are gaps. Would really be grateful if someone could take a look at this and help me out.

I don't think the text always makes complete sense word by word, although knowing the meanings of each individual words does help in understanding its deeper meanings.

I've had a look through the du'a and this is what I've understood. If there are any mistakes its mine and its upon the more knowledgeable on this forum to correct, if there's benefit, then alhamdulillah

wa ana al-baa'is [and I am the miserable] al faqeer [the dependent] al mustagheeth [the one in need of aid] al mustajeer [the one seeking protection] al wajil [the shaken] al mushfiq [the fearful] al muqirr [the resltess] al mu'tarif bi dhanbih [the one recognised by his sins]. as'aluka mas'alah al-miskeen [I ask you with request of the poor] wa abtahilu ilayka bi ibtihaal al mudhnib adh dhaleel [and I humbly supplicate to You with the humble supplication of the lowly sinner] wa ad'uka du'aa al khaa'if [and I supplicate with the supplication of the fearful] adh-dhareer [the blind] man khada'at laka raqabatuhu [whose neck bows for you] wa faadhat 'aynaahu [and eyes overflow] wa nuhila laka jasaduhu [and whose being is given in your way] wa raghima laka anfuhu [and the one who may his nose be full of dust (out of disgrace)]

Allahumma laa taj'alni bi du'aa ika shaqiyyaa [Allah don't make me through my supplication to You unsuccessful] wa kun lee raufan-raheemaa [and be gentle and merciful to me] ilaahi man madaha ilayka nafsahu [(you are) my God, the one Who sends praises to You Himself (i.e. Allah has right to praise Himself by Himself)] fa inni laa'imu nafsee [for I am vile myself] akhrasatil ma'aasi lisaanee [my sins have silenced my tongue] fa maa lee waseelatun min 'amali [and I have no means through my actions] wa laa shafee' siwa al-amali [nor any intercessor besides hope]

Walaikum as salaam

Thankyou thankyou thankyou. JazakAllah hu khairan. Its extremely helpful.
I had the english meaning of the entire para (though u've done it much better than in the book), but its hard to recall it all when you read just the arabic. But when I study it word by word, even if i remember a few keywords it brings back the whole meaning and it just helps me in being aware of what i'm saying.
JazakAllah again for ur timely help. Will remember you all in my dua. Im leaving makkah tomorrow, to join my hajj group. I'm glad I decided to check my mail today :).

I think al-mu'tarif bi dhanbihi is the one who recognises/acknowledges his sins, not the one recognised by, because it is an ism fa'il not ism maf'ul. Mu'taraf would be recognised/known by. Wallahu A'lam.
