Salam Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

A friend told me that when the crusades arrived and took over Jerusalem, they turned Jamaa' Al-Aqsa into a church.

Does anyone know whether this is true or not?

Allah knows best,

Jazakallah.

This wouldn't be surprising. The Crusaders did many despicable things, including cannibalising Muslims (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Maarat)!

As Salamu Alaykum

From what I read, they turned al Aqsa into a horse stable for the knights templar.

And when Salah ud deen Al ayyoubi (:rahim:) took it back, he urged the mosque to be cleaned with some rose water.
